Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Tuesday grew increasingly combative in his line of questioning of Ketanji Brown Jackson, asking President Bidens Supreme Court nominee about her religious faith, her defense of Guantánamo Bay prisoners and whether she was aware of what he said were left-wing attacks on his preferred nominee to the court.
Graham opened his questioning by asking Jackson abruptly about her faith.
What faith are you, by the way? he asked.
When she responded she is a nondenominational protestant, Graham then asked: Could you fairly judge a Catholic?
When Jackson said she didnt feel comfortable talking about her personal religious views, Graham then pivoted quickly to how Democrats scrutinized Trumps Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett ...

(15,220 posts)Graham was putting on a show for his handlers hoping they would be proud of him. His antics were theater worthy and made him look absurd and unprofessional as usual.

It's really odd how that shift occurred when the USA is 42% Protestant and 41% Catholic.
The years when RGB was on the bench there were between 2 & 3 Jewish Justices when they make up 1% of population.
Eight of the nine active Justices are either Catholic or Jewish.

(6,170 posts)how can they make judgements on anything related to non-catholic religions, or for that matter on anything related to their own faith?
Answer: Because the laws of the United States aren't based on religion. The Constitution deliberately made the distinction of separation of Church and State to protect against any religion being used to control the people.
Any informed Catholic would say that Jesus said, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's".
Even Jesus preached the separation of Church and State.
This was a bullshit question by Senator Graham. Quite typical for him.

That's the question that should be asked to counter Lindsey Graham and the others who raise her religion.
It sure seems like either the Protestants acquiesced control of the court to the Catholic church or there is a push to purge them from the courts altogether. Republicans are all worried about being replaced, yet they are doing the same thing in the courts.
It should be noted that Justice Gorsuch is an Anglo-Catholic. While Angelican is classified as Protestant, it is one of the closest to the Catholic Church. Compound this with the fact that Justice Gorsuch is part of the Catholic leaning wing of Angelicans, makes him more Catholic than Protestant.
