Hawley focused heavily on the case of an 18 year old boy who had just graduated high school. It is hardly unheard of for young men to indulge their curiosity while they’re growing up. This is very different from a middle aged man leering at prepubescents online. Republicans are incapable of seeing shades of grey. Hawley would be happy to destroy this young man’s life to make a point, especially if it enhanced his stature among the deplorables. More fundamentally, I really don’t understand what point the Republicans think they are making with this line of questioning.
