(32,639 posts)This is a bad corner for Wisconsin Dems, but it's not the end of the road. In PA it took almost 8 years to get our 2010 gerrymandered maps redrawn. They had been drawn by Repukes and they heavily favored the Repukes. We're a state that has almost 50/50 evenly split voter registration. Neither party had an advantage (that was before Chump) in general elections, even though individual districts have distinct majorities. That's true in just about every state. But after the 2010 Congressional map was drawn the Repukes won many of the Congressional elections. Several seats were flipped from D to R, and nothing flipped the other way.
As I said it took almost 8 years but Dems and Independents got the 2010 map thrown out in time for the 2018 election. It was confirmed by the PA Supreme Court and then SCOTUS refused to overturn it.
Don't lose heart, Wisconsin Democrats. It's not over yet!

(30,613 posts)WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the use of a map configuring Wisconsin's congressional districts for this year's elections drawn by Democratic Governor Tony Evers, giving a boost to efforts by President Joe Biden's party to retain control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The justices turned away a Republican bid to block the map drafted by Evers and approved by the Wisconsin Supreme Court setting boundaries for the state's eight U.S. House districts after the governor vetoed one made by the Republican-controlled legislature he deemed unfairly skewed against Democrats. The emergency request to the justices was made by five Republican U.S. House members.
The court also granted a Republican request seeking to block new maps for Wisconsin's state legislature, with two liberal justices, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, dissenting. The court sent that case back to the Wisconsin Supreme Court and ordered it to adopt new maps laying out the various districts.

(3,213 posts)I just read another article saying the Supreme Court rejected the Republican maps, and is allowing Evers' plan to go forward.
