In early January, a day before students returned from winter break, Jeremy Glenn, the superintendent of the Granbury Independent School District in North Texas, told a group of librarians he’d summoned to a district meeting room that he needed to speak from his heart.

“I want to talk about our community,” Glenn said, according to a recording of the Jan. 10 meeting obtained and verified by NBC News, ProPublica and The Texas Tribune. Glenn explained that Granbury, the largest city in a county where 81 percent of residents voted for then-President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election, is “very, very conservative.”

He noted that members of Granbury’s school board — his bosses — were also very conservative. And to any school employees who might have different political beliefs, Glenn said, “You better hide it,” adding, “Here in this community, we’re going to be conservative.”

That’s why, he said, he needed to talk to them about some of the books available in the school district’s libraries.

If they were truly "conservative" they would not have voted for a confirmed adulterer. ZonkerHarris Mar 2022 #8

I am well aware of the difference between FOX News and FOX Broadcasting. My most-watched station is the FOX Broadcasting affiliate in DC, WTTG. I watch TV only the air. I do not have cable or satellite, so I have no way to watch FOX News. If FOX News picked up the story from the FOX Broadcasting affiliate, I do not know.

Anyway, the story about the 130 books has been kicking around for a month. The Texas Tribune, in partnership with ProPublica, ran the story that is the topic of the OP.

The book removal began two months ago, when there were only five books involved.

Granbury ISD removes 5 "sexually explicit" books from school libraries

By FOX 4 Staff Published January 28, 2022 | Granbury| FOX 4

GRANBURY, Texas - A school district in North Texas is removing some books from its libraries.

Granbury ISD, southwest of Fort Worth, said five books all written by author Abbi Glines were taken off school library shelves because they contain "explicit sexual content."

The five books turned into 130 books.

Civil rights groups demand apology after Granbury ISD removes library books

By FOX 4 Staff Published March 1, 2022 | Granbury | FOX 4

GRANBURY, Texas - The American Civil Liberties Union is among those demanding that a North Texas school district apologize for removing books from its libraries.

In January, Granbury ISD pulled five books that it said had sexually explicit content. More than 100 other books were put under review.

{snip}

Again, I have no idea what shows up on FOX News, because I don't watch it.

Clearly, you don't want to run a school district that serves all the students of Granbury. When can those students and their families expect a refund of the taxes they've paid to support a district that doesn't deliver its services to them?

You are there to serve the public, which includes families who aren't conservative. I mean, I'm a librarian. I have died a little in my soul every time I have to order some shit book by {insert Republican asshole here}, but I still order it because it's on the NYT bestseller list. I'm also lucky that these items don't have high circulation in my particularly library, so most are weeded after five years with no check out. But the point is, 65% of my city reliably votes Democratic, but I still have to work to serve the whole community. Even the GQP that don't read books by their GQP heroes.
