'There are *more* hurdles. There is *more* bullshit.'

Elie Mystal @ElieNYC
I know that this is going to be lost on a lot of white people and almost all white Republicans. But when you see Booker or Padilla getting emotional... I just don't think y'all know how *hard* it is. For us. To get her.

I know some white people will get offended "we work hard too" and all that. Sure. People of color have to work *harder.* Straight up. There are *more* hurdles. There is *more* bullshit. You have no idea how many racist crap we've have to deal with on the way.

Elie Mystal @ElieNYC 1h
It's hard as fuck. And when you see someone who gets there too. Someone else whose *earned* it. And you KNOW what it's been like to be in those shoes... Damn straight you're emotional. Jackson just got choked up and said "persevere." That's what it is yo.

Yamiche Alcindor @Yamiche 1h
Judge Jackson said when she first got to Harvard she was feeling homesick and questioning whether she belonged. Then one day as she was walking through campus, a black woman who she did not know leaned in and said to her, “Persevere.”

it starts as soon as you're born - literally going from cradle to grave.

That's why you saw Reps. Sheila Jackson-Lee, Barbara Lee, and Al Green right in there (and Rep. Bobby Rush was there yesterday).

I did, because I'm a white FEMALE. And women in general still have the same uphill battles to fight as many of our brothers and sisters of color do. Being female allows me to at least partially identify with their struggle.

PERSEVERE.
