If Republicans didn't destroy themselves today, then America is over

Today, the mask came off.

Lindsey Graham, Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton and others, would have felt right at home in Germany of 1939, or in any pig sty of your choosing. Their display of racism, anti-feminism, and outright disrespect and contempt for another human being was beyond mind-blowing. It gave credence to the theory that there's no intelligent life on this planet.

If any Democrat ever treated another human being the way Judge Jackson was treated today by Republicans, none would be able to get elected to any office imaginable. Ever.

Of course, Republicans were talking to their base and not the woman they were verbally trying to smear with horrendous garbage. And therein is a snapshot of what today's Republican Party is. It's okay to be a racist. It's okay to be a bigot. It's okay to hate the "OTHER." It's okay to be a bully. It's okay to spit on someone because you have the power to spit on them. It's okay to be a total shit because millions of morons will love it and will vote for you.

The path these Republicans have taken holds no mysteries. We know where it will lead because they've passed every signpost that history has shown us to be deadly to human beings. But they don't give a rat's ass because they believe that we, the majority, can't do one fucking thing to stop their lust for power and the abuse of it. And they may be right.

Winning this November and in November of 2024 is more than a necessity. It's survival. If we lose, we may never again see another election in this country. America, our democracy and our freedoms could/might/will come to an end. That is exactly what the Republicans showed us yesterday and today. If you don't see that at this point, then I'll stop here because further words would be meaningless.

I do not mean to offend or suggest that racism is of no importance but many in the GOP actively engaged in a coup. They sought to forcibly overturn the election through intimidation and violence. The mere fact that numerous elected officials renounced the failed coup and then embraced the conspiracy immediatly after (with no challenge or backlash from republican voters) suggests that America is severely broken if not "over"

Look, I am not suggesting that the disgusting behavior by the GOP today is excusable in any way. Judge Jackson deserves respect. I simply think the ship has already sailed. If republicans don't care about sedition and treason, why the hell would they care about racism?

We've never been closer to bringing about all the good stuff we this country claimed to be about but always fell short of.

THIS is the real "American exceptionalism". That we're about principles, not "blood and soil" bullshit. Without the principles we're just another empire, doomed to the fate of all history's empires. Americans have a way to make it different.

But to do that, we need to make it different.

The Republicans don't just "not want different", they actively want Confederacy 2.0.

In 20 years. We are now seeing the results of the past 20+ years. This blind faith that the public will somehow have an epiphany and see the light is wishful thinking. Republicans played the long game. They have won said game. As for their base dwindling, see Boebart, MTG, Hawley etc.. Look at the complete Morphing of the "traditional Republicans" such as Graham, who had to morph to survive. R's have taken the Supreme Court and the federal courts. They have packed state governments, they took the WH in 2016 with a moron as their candidate and damn near did the same in 2020. They made it ok to be as racists, hateful and violent as they want. There have been zero consequences. And their base is still there. This is the result of 20+ years of the blind faith thinking "that could never happen in the US" and "the people will never stand for (fill in a whole host of BS here)" and, "I just couldn't vote for candidate X because they didn't agree with me on every single thing, so I didn't vote at all or I voted 3rd party, because after all, THAT could never happen in the US." Well, welcome to all of THAT.

To this day all I can think of is, what happened to Americans that they would not find a way to do anything about the proliferation of guns in this country? What does it say about a county's people when money and materials stuff means more to them than life itself? That's what we've become. That's how we measure if we're a "great" country or not. All the materialism in this country and the hatred is everywhere. You'd think they'd get a clue that stuff and money don't make you happy.

We have truly lost the soul of our country. I am no longer proud of it and since I'm in my seventies now, I doubt I'll see it ever change for the better.

Consequences. There need to be some. The last two rethug administrations have created a lot that should be dragged into the light of the public view and discussed. It should be obvious that they are nothing short of criminals. They HAVE to be held accountable, but the other side is that there has to be REAL consequences to apply. Not some house arrest or five years at Club Fed. REAL consequences. Real time in prison. Real forfeiture of ill gotten wealth due to their criminal activities. Real fines that will impact them so badly that they have to become a wage slave just like the ones they got rich off of. I won't hold my breath though. All of this has been known for a long time. We collectively just worship money too much to actually bring down some reality and justice on those who have a lot of it.

Oh, and there needs to be some serious offerings from our side as to how we plan to do it as well. The more we don't act on this, the more we lose public support and interest. The more we don't see progress and results, the less we will be able to maintain any momentum. I know it is like herding cats, but that is the hand we have been dealt.

The answer I now know is, to keep America white (and poor but they don't mention that). After the Civil War, the wealthy were very worried that the freed slaves and poor whites would join together and take power away. They still worry about that and need to placate the poor, white base. Limbaugh, Drumpf and others have done an excellent job. Keep them angry and afraid.

But between gerrymandering and the insane voter suppression laws they're passing, they're trying to prevent us from getting out the vote. Looking down the road a bit, if their tactics hand them the whole federal government, it's not out of the question that we could actually find ourselves, like the Ukrainians, in a shooting war. -- Or, as many call it, a second Civil War. (Or a continuation of the first one that never really ended.) I hope this doesn't come to be. But we may actually be pushed to that extreme, regardless of our hopes, desires and dreams.

Democrats have to stop being so damn nice and understanding. Any rethug running that hearing would have gaveled a democrat into silence if they tried to pull 10% of the pearl clutching bullshit Lindsay pulled off yesterday. The disrespect was palpable.

But through it all, I can't help but feel this will drive Democrats will flock to the polls in November. It will certainly drive women of color, and let's face it...they're really who we need.

I can't fathom why Biden's approval isn't consistently at 60% or higher, just out of sheer relief that he isn't Trump.

But too many American's revel in assholery, however, whether it be from Trump or the rest of the Republicans.

Then another big chunk are playing little or no attention to such things, but they're unhappy about inflation, or Ukraine, or lingering COVID problems. Those low-information voters will happily blame the party of the incumbent President for all that troubles them, no matter how little sense that makes. What little news media these people happen to consume will most likely encourage rather than challenge such shallow thinking.

The number of Republican voters who will switch or withhold their vote as a result of this latest round of vile GQP shenanigans is statistically insignificant. If anything, KKKonservative "independent" voters have likely found a number of excuses to pull the Red lever come November.

It would be grand if Republicans ever paid a real price for their contemptible anti-American fuckery, but that's simply not the nation that we live in.
