Palmer report on the Pomerantz/Bragg affair...

The Mark Pomerantz resignation letter to Alvin Bragg is actually a bit of good news (no really). It’s the first official confirmation that the Manhattan DA’s office has Trump nailed on felonies. Now we just have to figure out what the hell’s going on with it.

The part everyone’s overlooking is that after Bragg chased off Pomerantz, Bragg gave the Trump case to his own newly hired gun. The most likely explanation continues to be that Bragg wanted his own handpicked people in charge of the case.

This raises questions about whether Bragg genuinely didn’t like the way the Trump case was built, or if he just wanted his own people running it so he could get full credit for it. Bragg and Pomerantz both have solid histories, so it’s tough to say from the outside.

But if Bragg just wanted to wash his hands of this case, and wanted a scapegoat, he could have just announced that Pomerantz blew the case. But he didn’t do that. He just pushed out Pomerantz and quietly reassigned it to his own handpicked person.

Which happens in boardroom power struggles all the time. The new boss brings in his own people and wants existing projects done his own way. The pundits covering this are acting like this is the first time a new boss has ever done such a thing in the history of the world.

This isn’t some attempt at “optimism” on my part (I don’t believe in optimism, and I’m offended when I’m accused of such). It sucks that we have to wait for office politics to play out before Trump is indicted. But at least now we have official confirmation that Trump is nailed.

The doomsday pundits will roast me for this take. But it’s much more compatible with the available facts and basic logic of the situation. If Bragg were looking to wash his hands of the Trump case, he’d have, you know, actually washed his hands of it. Which he did not.

Remember: all the retweets, attention, critical praise, and TV bookings go to the doomsday pundits who insist that Trump will “get away with it all no matter what.” I gain nothing, and take serious heat, for offering a factually accurate explanation of things instead.

The popular narrative that Bragg must have been “bought off” is laughable. If that really were happening, Bragg 1) wouldn’t have been this blatant about it, and 2) would have killed the case and scapegoated someone, instead of reassigning it. Please stop spreading this nonsense.

Bragg may indeed be guilty of stealing Pomerantz’s hard work so he can take credit for it. But even in such case, you’re not helping (at all) by shouting baseless bribe / blackmail conspiracy theories that don’t even fit the facts. All that does is muddy the waters.

As always, if you want to contribute to the process:

1) Stop yelling stupid shit

2) Push back against the doomsday pundits, who are all depraved con artists

3) Learn how things actually work

4) Demand realistic action

5) Did I mention stop yelling stupid shit?

2. Sounds to me like Bragg wasn't going to risk his career on a case

he didn’t think they could win in court.

If I remember, they couldn’t find anyone who could/would testify that trump knew, and probably directed, people to take advantage of tax system.Wish it were different, but it’s not.

trump is still a corrupt POS.

State AG should thoroughly investigate DA office and issue report or take over the case.

The Palmer Report is an American liberal[2] fake news website,[3] founded in 2016 by Bill Palmer.[4] It is known for making unsubstantiated or false claims,[5] producing hyperpartisan content,[6] and publishing conspiracy theories,[7][8] especially on matters relating to Donald Trump and Russia.[14] Fact-checkers have debunked numerous Palmer Report stories, and organizations including the Columbia Journalism Review and the German Marshall Fund have listed the site among biased websites or false content producers.[15][16]

'Palmer describes himself as a political journalist;[59] media sources have variously described him as a journalist,[11] political analyst,[60] left-wing political blogger,[61] and anti-Trump Twitter user.[62]'

I like this take on the Bragg issue for now.
Wish we'd get to the last chapter so people would know which opinion writer got it correct!

This makes perfect sense.
Whatever the boardroom politics brought it to this point, I hope the follow thru is a solid conviction.

They can duke it out over who gets credit after they've succeeded at their job.

Good post. Thanks
