Court remains silent on Thomas condition after he entered the hospital last week
'...the Supreme Court is providing no updates on his condition. For the third consecutive day, the 73-year-old justice was not on the bench when the justices heard oral argument; the courts only comment on Thomas status Wednesday came from Chief Justice John Roberts, who indicated that Thomas was unable to be present but would nonetheless participate in the consideration and decision of Wednesdays case based on the briefs and oral argument transcript.'

(22,981 posts)how is it any different than when he IS present?
I'm hard-pressed to think of any more useless member of the Supreme Court.

(21,916 posts)From the viewpoint of the Right, Thomas is anything but useless. He is the most reliable right-wing vote on every issue before the Court. Even when other Conservatives don't agree, Thomas is always on the far-right side of every argument. Roberts and even Alito have voted in opposition to Thomas.
Trump's appointees will fill that same role. After Thomas, Barrett is the most unqualified Justice in our history. Kavanaugh is a sexual predator, a liar and too emotionally over-wrought to sit on the bench. And Gorsuch is just a straight up asshole.
Every one of these four is very useful to the GOP.
For the rest of us, though, I agree, lastlib. Thomas et al are useless to the progress of our country.

(22,981 posts)They are tools of the oligarchy, plain and simple. Thomas in particular is a disgrace to the robe. I can only hope that they shuffle off this mortal coil with all due speed.

I wish it were otherwise. This court, dominated by cheap politicians with little or no respect for law, is the biggest threat to our country since the Taney court. History will record it as such.

With the exception of Putin, I'm not wishing anyone to die or have poor health.

(15,238 posts)Manchin would say "Because Thomas was so loved by Republicans, I will not support anyone who doesn't have their support."
Elessar Zappa
(13,649 posts)But so far, Manchin has voted to approve all of Bidens judges. Plus, some Republicans would likely vote for his replacement as long as the nominee isnt too far left. Wed need to nominate a moderate.
Polybius
(15,238 posts)But that's different, because she's replacing a liberal. Thomas has almost god-like status. Only Scalia was worshiped more by the right. I don't think any would vote for his replacement unless he or she had some problems with Roe (and Biden wouldn't nominate anyone like that).
But who knows, I could be wrong.
