Republicans are hoping their racist smear campaign against Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will also serve to intimidate Sen. Joe Manchin from voting to confirm her and thus sink her nomination.
So far, there are no signs that any Democrats are defecting from supporting her, The Times reports. But Republicans are holding out hope. It's not clear if the smears have intimidated any Republicans out of voting for Judge Jackson. But if all Republicans vote against her, a single Democratic no vote would doom her confirmation.
Even if Judge Jackson is confirmed, Republicans have dishonestly painted a lovely, intelligent, thoughtful and well-qualified judge as a 2022 version of Willie Horton. All for the sake of using her as a weapon in their never-ending thirst for political dominance. It's beyond shameful.

The result will be fury and NATIONWIDE protests, like we've not seen for 50 years.

(5,491 posts)I hope people get angry. But mostly I hope that they vote. The only way to turn this around is to vote out Republicans. Because, in theory, we could go another 10 years before a new Supreme Court opening. We need both chambers of congress and we need to start flipping some state legislatures. That is the only way out of this.

(10,260 posts)I'm down with 13, one for each Federal District. ALSO, I think Congress should be expanded to AT LEAST 1000 members, and districts should just be limited to county lines...1 rep per county, AND THEN additional reps based on population.
No more gerrymandering. AT ALL.
