I think she's won over some Repubs to her side. Delaying any longer will just allow the hard right to apply pressure to change their vote.

(14,708 posts)And is willing to show up for a vote, it very well could come down to Manchin.
The jc is evenly split, but requires 1/2+1 members to be present to make a quorum and take a vote.
If she doesn't make it out of committee, the full senate would need to vote to hold a confirmation vote.
At that point, we need all 50 dems to vote for the confirmation vote. If even one dem fails to support it, no vote could be held until the jc votes.
Manchin has repeatedly refused to do that. For reasons.
It is a very real risk.

(146,286 posts)Then, it will go to a floor vote in the Senate, where there will be many speeches and absurdities spoken by Republicans who are not on the committee before the entire Senate votes. It's not a speedy process.

(14,708 posts)The committee is only making a recommendation. If they fail to vote, the senate could vote to hold a vote before the full senate anyway.
Note that the gop can stop a jc vote by simply not showing up. They need a quorum which is half plus one. Since the committee is divided evenly, the qop can deny a quorum by staying home that day. Or any day really, since the vote needs to be scheduled well in advance.

(21,752 posts)The Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on Judge Ketanji Brown Jacksons Supreme Court nomination on April 4.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the chairman of the committee, announced as he was wrapping up the second day of questions that Jacksons nomination will be on the committees agenda for the first time on Monday.
But under the committees rules, any senator can request that a nomination be held over for a week. Jacksons nomination, like most that come before the panel, is expected to be delayed by a week.
That would make the committees actual vote on April 4.

They will tear her down as if she was some worthless piece of material to be discarded once passing her USE BY date. They will portray her as being LESS THAN HUMAN.
God and His son, Jesus, will be listening and taking note. They know what is in the hearts of these Republicans.

(4,845 posts)I knew the republicans will make this unbearable to watch. It's their revenge for what we did to their nominees (even though our reasons were solid while theirs are BS).
