The ingredients are there for an upset. If the worst thing Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) did this month was call Ukraines President a thug, or get caught speeding multiple times with a revoked license, or accuse Speaker Nancy Pelosi of being an alcoholic, the 26-year-old MAGA-influencer would probably be just fine in his re-election bid.
But Cawthorn did something far worse, at least for his own political prospects, and it may cost him his seat: He left his constituentsand then was forced to return to them, hat in hand, after the courts predictably struck down the states new map, and eliminated the district he left to run in, on Feb. 23.
The about-face opened up a more damaging line of attack than anything Cawthorn has said or done. It showed, at least briefly, that he was less interested in representing the voters who first elected him than he was in just being in Congress.
The numerous candidates challenging Cawthorn in the GOP primary, slated for May, do not intend to let voters in North Carolinas 11th District forget it.

(8,711 posts)Students dipped Baccy products. Before campus made it not legal in class. That stopped nothing. Red cups would have been welcomed. The sickest part of their habit was clear soft drink bottles. They would spit in em all day and fill em up, then leave them in classrooms, in lab room drawers and on vans we would transport them in for field labs. The best part of retirement, I have not seen one damn bottle full of spit. A couple times I would sit a clear bottle half full of a green slimy mixture I created in lab, on my lecture podium, and keep acting like I was blowing my runny nose in it during cold season. Childish, yea, but payback for cleaning up their crap. One all day field trip, a group shared a litter bottle, fill it up, spilled it on seats and floors of the van. Guess who had to clean that up.
God bless retirement. Ya think Cawthorn leaves his spit bottles in congress halls?

(2,343 posts)of candidates gets more and more evil. That cawthorn is an absolute piece of garbage. Are we sure the person replacing him wouldn't be worse?
That is what constantly worries me.
