(54,990 posts)I don't wish harm to anybody but I also won't mourn if he dies or has to retire.
I know RBG had it. But I thought he also had it. But I could be wrong, it could be that he is just a sphincter

(2,580 posts)"WASHINGTON (AP) Justice Clarence Thomas remains hospitalized in Washington after being diagnosed with an infection but does not have COVID-19, the Supreme Court said Monday.
The high court announced Sunday evening that the 73-year-old justice had entered the hospital Friday after experiencing flu-like symptoms and underwent tests. The court said that Thomas was diagnosed with an infection and was being treated with intravenous antibiotics. The court said at the time that his symptoms are abating," but it did not say that Thomas had tested negative for the virus.
At arguments at the court Monday, Thomas chair to the right of Chief Justice John Roberts was empty and Roberts took note of Thomas absence without explaining why. He said Thomas would take part in the cases based on written briefs and recordings of the in-court arguments. Thomas, who has been on the court since 1991, is currently its longest-serving justice."

(2,220 posts)intravenous antibiotics typically means sepsis. Hubster had a relatively mild case of sepsis, got treatment early, and was still hospitalized for eight days.
Kali
(54,990 posts)I got close to it in June-July of 2014, don't remember how long I was the hospital (had to have an emergency surgery too), but had to go to a fucking horrible rehab place for a few days after because I was still on IV antibiotics. definitely had flu-like symptoms, and was sick as hell.

(2,220 posts)He had an upper respiratory bug that wouldnt go away. Horrible cough. He claimed it was no big deal. But when he spiked a 102 fever, I flipped out and called his doctor who said to get him to the ER (kicking and screaming) immediately. Turned out he also had pneumonia.
Kali

(42,674 posts)High blood pressure, diabetes, artery diseases, heart disease possibilities, kidney diseases, some might even say cancer. Clarence is no health food proponent.
Jilly_in_VA
(9,854 posts)that I read he is diabetic and has high blood pressure. That does not surprise me since he is both African-American and overweight. Those two things would kind of predispose him to have both conditions, which are prevalent in the Black community. And being diabetic also makes him more likely to get infections which can be serious.

(3,282 posts)Plus the fact that black men have higher incidence of diabetes and heart disease; I would suspect he's at high risk for both. Probably more surprising if he doesn't have atleast one of the two.

(2,195 posts)is usually 7-14 days, but can be longer.
I had to have them after wrist surgery and it was more like 3 weeks.
Also, sometimes they start you on one antibiotic, realize it isn't working, and have to switch to a different one!
It will be interesting to watch, given his age, weight gain, etc.
It is a message from the universe that it's time to retire!
Kali
(54,990 posts)still interesting to be happening. I said in another thread could this be the pendulum finally swinging back in terms of SCOTUS composition?
getagrip_already
(14,250 posts)He either needed an icu and/or a clean room due to suppressed immunity from the antibiotics.
There has to be some medical reason to keep him there. He could be treated at home otherwise.
He likely would have round the clock nurses and a doc nearby at home, as well as oxygen and iv's.
Staying in the hospital isn't necessary without a very good reason.
Kali
(54,990 posts)length of stay seems pretty unusual.
