see 2nd video for skimmer
Joseph Harris noticed the skimmer at a 7-Eleven. He took out his phone and hit record, showing the criminal card reading device laid directly over the stores actual card scanner, camouflaging itself to look authentic.
Be careful, yall, Harris was heard saying in the video. Those skimmers read your card information and then record the pin number you punch into it.
Sgt. Martin VanOverbeek with the Fresno Police Department said the skimmer used in the 7-Eleven is, one of the more sophisticated overlay devices out there.

OP
I just plain don't use my debit anywhere but inside a bank that's open and staffed.

I'm curious how many stripe-only cards are still out there, in contrast to chip cards.

I'm not sure if it's nationwide or PA only, but the ReliaCards sent out for UE re ipients during the pandemic were swipe only. Very inconvenient in a few locations that have machines that no longer read swipe cards.

No fuss and probably safer.

(8,387 posts)4. ...and for good reason
If a merchant accepts swipes from cards that have chips then the merchant bears the cost of fraud, instead of the issuer.
But, yeah, some of the outfits that get contracts for services like that aren't exactly strong on service.
