The big picture: Jackson is likely to be confirmed with or without McConnells support, but he had left the door open in previous days, saying he wasn't yet sure.
What he's saying now: In a speech on the Senate floor on Thursday, McConnell said Jackson deflected questions on constitutional philosophy and cited the fact that she's backed by groups that support court-packing.
"I cannot and will not support Judge Jackson to her lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court," McConnell said.

(11,728 posts)Asshole, she did not deflect. She answered those questions. Perhaps you didn't like the answers. She is not bound to labels. She is not an originalist, or a textualist, or a "living document" adherent. Judge Brown Jackson approaches her legal cases by looking at the Constitution, looking at the text, meaning, and consequences of law and judicial interpretation. She examines how ruling would impact the law, with the focus on the Judiciary not being "policy makers" but interpreting whether those laws or disputes on the law adhere to the Constitution. That is not a deflection, that is a judge that is not bound to one way of looking at things. Someone that you can't really pin down and that scares you. Plus, she's nominated by a Democrat, Black. and a Woman, so we know you weren't going vote for her anyway. Too bad for you that you will have to call her Justice Brown Jackson for the rest of your pathetic life.
Also, you supported a justice with hardly any experience who couldn't even answer what rights are protected by the First Amendment.

(15,933 posts)White Supremacist Mitch McConnell of course will vote no. No surprise there! Yet I would've been extremely surprised if he voted yes 😂

That's about it for the GQP side of the aisle.

(6,169 posts)Judge Jackson is a stellar candidate, but, she's a Democrat, and a black woman.
McConnell would never support her.

(54,338 posts)He was never "not sure." Qualifications mean nothing to him.or he would never have voted to confirm the beer-addled frat boy or Ms. Phony Carrot. He votes ideology, always has, always will. He is just too much of a coward and a liar to say so publicly.
