4. ABC News reported tonight that Putin said that Russia would occupy Mariupol forever.

He will not stop, and without military help in the air I do not see how Ukraine can stop him from turning every one of their cities into the ruin that is now Mariupol. This afternoon a Ukrainian journalist described the people in Mariupol as without hope. They are now just waiting to die. It may be too late for Mariupol, but I cannot see NATO standing by and allowing this to happen throughout Ukraine. Yes, we’re giving them weapons, but they need help using them and help taking out the ships and land-based missile sites that are destroying their cities. As we finally saw with Hitler, some things are worth fighting for, and a madman never gives up. Neither will Putin because no sanctions will hurt him enough personally. No one else matters to him.

That works both ways. Turkey can isolate Russia at the straits, and has already closed the straits to warships.

that is what they are attempting here. A total annihilation.

But Ukraine is not Chechnya and it isn't Syria. We are in a different world right now. We'll see what happens.

9. I'm afraid the only thing that will stop Putin is if one of his insiders takes him out.

For the good of everyone else in the world.

He's not going to want to stick around to face a war crimes tribunal. His ego and his "manhood" are on the line. Nobody wants to admit they were wrong. I suspect that's Putin's problem, times about a million.

what was left of the invasion force would have been fleeing eastward two weeks ago. Their armed forces are formidable, given the disparity in raw power.
