... Folks stick with the last hairstyle that got compliments... for the rest of their lives. Over time, it becomes exaggerated and difficult to maintain as hair changes texture, or thins from natural aging.

Same theory applies to clothing style.

Also, this behavior is most noticeable in alcoholics who become really set in their ways.
