Just one problem: The iconic line appears nowhere in the U.S. Constitution. As most students learn in fifth-grade social studies, its in the Declaration of Independence.

(16,157 posts)All I can do is shake my head n think back on some of the personal accounts of the 1930s Europe as they watched their way of life crumble. A little dramatic...but I think of how I feel n how they must have felt in real time.

One party rule is a road paved to authoritarianism especially for the conservative mind. Especially now that gerrymandering is so precise at slicing and dicing voters and delivering them up to their pols.
I wonder if there were any left-wing authoritarian rulers in history or is that fundamentally a contradiction with our nature, our ability to see paradox?
