When I am using my iPas, as opposed to my desktop Mac, I have to click on the link to read or view the content of a twit. On occasions, as happened recently, I am stuck. Am told to either register or sign in. I will do neither.
The only way out is to back up.
No big deal. I don't consider twits from anyone a reliable source.
So I am thankful to all the DUers who post full stories and cute clips of kitties directly.

(32,634 posts)But I'm almost always on my desktop computer. (I rarely use my cellphone for internet.)
Anyway I can right-click on the Twitter link and select "open incognito window." The Incognito allows me to read all the tweets and replies, whereas I would have been stopped by Twitter otherwise. It's not exactly a paywall but an absolute insistence that I have to "sign up or log in." If it were not for the Incognito window I'd have to trash all the Twitter posts, and we have a lot of them on DU now.
I'm not sure if there's anyway to open an Incognito window on a cellphone.

(51,587 posts)Do you think it is due to using a tablet instead of a desk top?

(32,634 posts)If you don't use Chrome, then I'm not sure if other browsers have it.
Perhaps you could give Chrome a try, just to see how it works? You can always uninstall and delete it later. Chrome does work on tablets, I have it on my tablet. It's totally safe (free from Google) and IMO the best browser out there. (If you're using a cellphone, I'm not sure if Chrome has an app for phones.)

(65,010 posts)When you tap the link, hold your finger down for a bit. A window will pop up, given you a choice of actions.
Things like "Open In New Tab", "Copy Link", "Copy Link Text", and so on will be listed.
One of those, usually the 2nd choice is open in new incognito tab.
Should work.
I've got about as cheap an Android tablet as can be found. It works for me, and I clearly have nothing special about my hardware or software.
I am using Chrome. I can't be sure it works that way on other browsers.

(17,303 posts)Sources do matter, of course, and that INCLUDES the Twitterverse. I shall continue to read tweets, read between the lines of tweets, retweet and reject tweets on the basis of common sense.

The first major manifestation of disinformation at a complex cognitive level was when humans adopted the wilful suspension of disbelief necessary for a god or gods to be conceived of as real and existing.

But I'll say that for me, tuning out the god B.S. was an easy decision once I reached university age about 30 years ago. But I find it much more challenging today to discern truth from spin and propaganda on a political level, at least periodically. Sometimes it's as clear as day, but other times it makes you:

I think that we had this several posts here citing the tweets.

If you are speaking of (tweet-wise) randos, anons with no links to their claims, then yes, those can be very problematic.
LBN requires a link to a major news source, so a tweet like I just described (rando, no link) would never have been allowed to stand anyway.
It sounds to me (perhaps I am wrong) as though you are simply trying to universalise and force your personal dislike of ALL tweets onto the board.
That is your personal choice. Do you know how many times I am geo-blocked from links posted here? Hundreds of times (perhaps well over 1000). Yet I do not demand that the board only post links that even the EU can access.
I see people all the time complain about paywalls. I often try and provide an archive-based alternative link (as do a few other posters) so that all can read it, but sometimes that doesn't work.
I am not going to stop posting a valid story or article because of that, unless the admins choose to make it a rule that no paywalled sites are allowed (which they won't, as that would kneecap the site to a large degree).
