Help! Need help refuting this bit of stupid.

My idiot mother really believes that Obamacare means that she will be forced to give up Medicare as well as Tri-Care if and buy Obamacare unless it is repealed.

I am so gobsmacked I hardly no where to begin. I've tried pointing out that, that bit of legislation means that all people will need to have insurance (which she does have). She says I'm lying because I'm voting for Obama...

Help she really believes this nonsense! And, yes, my parents watch Faux news constantly.

Strengthening Medicare

Under the Affordable Care Act, the life of the Medicare Trust Fund will be extended to at least 2024 as a result of reducing waste, fraud, and abuse, and slowing cost growth in Medicare. This will provide you with future cost savings on your premiums and co-insurance.

What This Means for You

The federal government is taking strong action to reduce payment errors, waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicare. The President has made a commitment to reduce Medicare fraud 50% by 2012. The health care law makes an historic, 10-year, $350 million investment to prevent, detect, and fight fraud in Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. Visit StopMedicareFraud.gov to learn more.

The coordination of care between doctors and the overall quality of care will improve so that you will be less likely to experience preventable and harmful re-admissions to the hospital for the same condition.
Hospitals will have new, strong incentives to improve your quality of care.
In 2011, if you hit the prescription drug “donut hole,” you get a 50% discount on brand-name drugs. Every year after, you will pay less for your prescription drugs in the donut hole until there’s complete coverage of the donut hole in 2020. Between now and then, you will get continuous Medicare coverage for your prescription drugs.
Starting in 2014, the health care law offers additional protections for Medicare Advantage plan members by taking strong steps that limit the amount these plans spend on administrative costs, insurance company profits, and things other than health care.

I just give him shit about using his government insurance to the fullest while demanding no one else be given access. Eventually they'll shut up and leave you alone about it.

Not speaking to her is NOT an option, as I help my father care for her. She is a tetraplegic and needs round the clock care.

The links are very handy thank you!

the thought of Romney at the helm should terrify her. How does Medicare vouchers sound to someone who would be completely uninsurable on the open market?

Cause that is what a vote for Romney buys for her--never mind if she were to become ill and need long term care--nope, Romney and Ryan will assure that there isn't long-term care.

The question she really needs to concentrate on--WHY would folks try to scare her into voting for them?

Because that's all they got. Fear. And the worst part of that? Is that they will do EXACTLY what they accuse Obama of doing.

insurance as Obamacare....there is no company by that name, there is no such policy.

There is absolutely no basis for her fears of having to give up Medicare or her supplemental insurance, and I would probably have her try to do an online search for anything close to what she believes. She will find a lot of information on "Obamacare", but nothing at all that says Medicare will disappear for her.

But I have to ask, why are you arguing this point with your mother if she is so far gone to the Republican/wingnut side? Will you change her mind about Obama or who she will vote for with this argument?

Please don't get me started on her. She is difficult to love and impossible to respect. I should dig harder to do so, it says nothing whatever good or kind about me that I simply can not find something to respect about her.

Most days I just hope she gets what she asks for. Does that count as good wishes?

I wouldn't let her vote if she won't listen to reason. This will directly affect your life if RR gets in. Ryan's plan also calls for any payments that Mom and Dad can't make - be collected from the children. There will be no long term care, nor will she be able to get coverage unless a very expensive hi risk pool is created.
