Vladimir Putin has lost another general in the Ukrainian war, claim military sources in Kyiv.
Lieutenant General Yakov Rezantsev, 48, was killed in a strike by the Ukrainian armed forces, they say.
He was Commander of the 49th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District.
The Russian side has not so far confirmed the death.
A service member said Lt. Gen. Yakov Rezantsev told them on the fourth day of their deployment that the war would be over quickly.
The soldier said: Do you know what he told us? Its no secret to anyone that there are only a few hours until this special operation is over. - And now those hours are still going."

(2,338 posts)With Ukraine pushing back, Im worried that Putin will resort to more lethal shit to try and reverse his fortunes.
Deploying chemical weapons or a tactical nuke against the Ukrainians would have devastating consequences. And Putin probably doesnt think that far ahead. He might not be capable of it if hes feeling cornered and desperate.

I have never heard of any fascists V-8 Compensator displaying tRump trash being vandalized by someone from the left. But the tight doing it to us? All the time

(66,300 posts)Sedgewick was an excellent field commander, brave as a lion, and his men loved him. Rare enough for a Civil War Union general.
He wasn't being oafish or foolhardy. His men were taking cover under withering Confederate fire, and the deadly curtain of ammo was giving the rebels cover to advance. Sedgewick was trying to rally his men when he said his last words. His words were not cut off by enemy fire, and he said his famous remark several minutes before he was cut down.
John Sedgewick didn't deserve to become a punchline.

(9,958 posts)I wonder about the intelligence Trump may have shared with Putin because our own intelligence services also estimated that Ukraine would not fight for long. I also wonder about the top secret papers Trump stole when he left the White House and whether any of them related to assessments of Russia, Ukraine, or Zelensky. Putin certainly did not expect Ukraines fighting prowess, Zelenskys leadership, or the rapid sanctions and support by the US and EU for Ukraine.

(2,338 posts)And a Lt. General? OK, I looked it up and thats a 2 star general in the Russian army, the equivalent of our Major General. I dont know shit about the Russian army, but that just seems young for the rank.
In theory, in the US peace-time Army, one can make brigadier general around age 41, if you hit all the right breaks. But from what Im seeing, it looks like 45-48 is about average for promotion to brigadier if youre destined for flag rank, that is.
Perhaps this guy was really talented, knew the right people, sucked up to the right people, or some combination the three?

Seriously, this clown looks like one of the minor sub-villains meant to parody pompous military officers in an '80s James Bond movie. How long do you suppose he fidgeted with his sleeve to make sure we could see that hideous watch? "Is not hideous, is very expensive!"
