Russian general who bragged 'war would be over quickly' killed in Ukraine strike
Lieutenant General Yakov Rezantsev, 48, was reportedly killed in a strike by the Ukrainian armed forces after telling his regiment the operation in Ukraine would only last a 'few hours'

Vladimir Putin has lost another general in the Ukrainian war, claim military sources in Kyiv.

Lieutenant General Yakov Rezantsev, 48, was killed in a strike by the Ukrainian armed forces, they say.

He was Commander of the 49th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District.

The Russian side has not so far confirmed the death.

A service member said Lt. Gen. Yakov Rezantsev told them on the fourth day of their deployment that the war would be over quickly.

The soldier said: “Do you know what he told us? ‘It’s no secret to anyone that there are only a few hours until this special operation is over.’ - And now those hours are still going."

With Ukraine pushing back, I’m worried that Putin will resort to more lethal shit to try and reverse his fortunes.

Deploying chemical weapons or a tactical nuke against the Ukrainians would have devastating consequences. And Putin probably doesn’t think that far ahead. He might not be capable of it if he’s feeling cornered and desperate.

Because those fascists would vandalize our cars off there was anything remotely like that. And if you’re driving in rural America, they would likely force you off the road. I have never heard of any fascist’s V-8 Compensator displaying tRump trash being vandalized by someone from the left. But the tight doing it to us? All the time

I'll pay his ticket to go there. But his Mommy will have to pay shipment back on his coffin. Or maybe we'll be lucky and the Russians will cremate his carcass along with their other troops' bodies--save polluting our soil further.

Which in a way is nice to see, but it's damn annoying that they are now calling Russians 'commies' and I am tired of explaining that they are an oligarchic failed democracy - just about as far from a state ownership economic model as you can get.

Sedgewick was an excellent field commander, brave as a lion, and his men loved him. Rare enough for a Civil War Union general.

He wasn't being oafish or foolhardy. His men were taking cover under withering Confederate fire, and the deadly curtain of ammo was giving the rebels cover to advance. Sedgewick was trying to rally his men when he said his last words. His words were not cut off by enemy fire, and he said his famous remark several minutes before he was cut down.

John Sedgewick didn't deserve to become a punchline.

I wonder about the intelligence Trump may have shared with Putin because our own intelligence services also estimated that Ukraine would not fight for long. I also wonder about the top secret papers Trump stole when he left the White House and whether any of them related to assessments of Russia, Ukraine, or Zelensky. Putin certainly did not expect Ukraine’s fighting prowess, Zelensky’s leadership, or the rapid sanctions and support by the US and EU for Ukraine.

And a Lt. General? OK, I looked it up and that’s a 2 star general in the Russian army, the equivalent of our Major General. I don’t know shit about the Russian army, but that just seems young for the rank.

In theory, in the US peace-time Army, one can make brigadier general around age 41, if you hit all the right breaks. But from what I’m seeing, it looks like 45-48 is about average for promotion to brigadier if you’re destined for flag rank, that is.

Perhaps this guy was really talented, knew the right people, sucked up to the right people, or some combination the three?

Too bad you'll never grow into it.

Seriously, this clown looks like one of the minor sub-villains meant to parody pompous military officers in an '80s James Bond movie. How long do you suppose he fidgeted with his sleeve to make sure we could see that hideous watch? "Is not hideous, is very expensive!"
