Both are working better than they did in my childhood.

My quality of life at 60 was greater than that of any generation befor me. Better food and good medicine are part of that. At 80 I am older than anyone in history of my family lived. That is almost entirely due to the fact medicare helps me access the advanced medical system we have built.

Personally I have not had much need for the legal system but as a female and as a former paycheck worker, I have certainly benefitted by the fact someone figured out access to the legal system to improve things.

The systems are not better. Yes, we have better drugs, better medicine, what good is it if the system kills you. The same with legal system. The legal system worked better during Watergate. What is taking place today is a much bigger threat than Watergate and the system today is failing, so far.

years ago, if we were alive at all. I am thankful that I am alive at 74 in this year, and have all the good stuff, and health, at my disposal. I can only guess at how good it will be in another hundred years. If we survive at all. I would not have survived back then.

Two steps forward, one step back-- the way it has been through recorded history. Not as good as it it could be, but at least not as bad.

Mom in the 50s and 60s, and now a retired career federal natural resource manager with a graduate degree and three adult children in their 30s, I'd say it has been one step forward, two steps back since Reagan. My folks had great medical and dental insurance, I owed a total of $1,000 after completing 6 years of college without any assistance from my folks and only a few meager scholarships; my kids are way behind my wife and I as far as personal financial security due to college debt, ridiculous housing costs (typically 30-35% of income as opposed to 20-25% for my generation), substantially more expensive but lesser health coverage than my wife and I had at their age; and Spiro Agnew, John Mitchell, Nixon all resigned or served time in prison after pleading, being convicted or impeached, not to mention the 11 other criminals, including White House advisors, who served significant time for Watergate and a couple who escaped with just fines.

No question about it: one step forward, two steps back over the past 45-50 years economically and accountability-wise from my perspective.

I have good doctors, good private health insurance, good access, and the system is stopping them from saving my life. Think about that for a while. I have been trying to warn people. No one is safe under our healthcare system.

8. When I say access I meant access to the actual medical care.

The insurance system works to keep people from getting access to that.

So I don't disagree with you at all.

Sorry for the troubles you have been having.
