The Russians are gonna lose this war.
Blown up russian equipment, fire, Ukrainian troops after fierce battle,... and in walks a Ukrainian girl with a Kalashnikov, no helmet, no bullet proof vest, sunglasses, who is fighting with the battalion.

I had an arrangement to meet a girl, and I was kind of late
And I thought by the time I got there she'd be off
She'd be off with the nearest truck driver she could find
Much to my surprise, there she was sittin' in the corner
The girl with far away eyes
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes
If not, sorry. That Stones song popped into my head.
Short skirt / Long jacket by Cake is a good one for that video. You know, to conceal that weapon she is carrying.
Music always enhances film.

(2,099 posts)compared to this young Ukrainian woman. She's the definition of badass. Calmly walking by as if she were on her way to Starbucks. Freaking Poo Tin. Putting all these people through this hell.
When will humanity move to the next level and stop all wars, not just Ukraine, but also in Yemen, Syria, Libya, Ethiopia, Niger, Chad, Myanmar, and too many other places to name? Too many people getting killed for dumb reasons when we should be focusing our attention on Climate Change, famines, and diseases.
GB_RN
(2,347 posts)Those wars won't end until people get over religion. Warring over religion/in the name of one's deity is the absolute height of human stupidity and more people have died in the name of some god than any other cause in our collective history.
Then, we have to get over our tribalism and fear of "the other". We have to realize beyond the differences that are literally no deeper than the depth of our skin, we are all the same. Look at a skeleton or a heart from an Asian and compare it to a Pacific Islander, African, European, South American Native, etc, and unless you were told which came from what body, you would LITERALLY never know what organ or bone came from what body.
All wars are a waste and are started by rich people with large egos. All wars are fought by the poor and the poor suffer the consequences for the rich people's egos.

(90,644 posts)I tried placing it n my mind awhile back when a buncha posters insisted America had never called our fighting men boys. Yes we did. They were always some mothers son in popular sentimental parlance. Hence, our boys.
MineralMan
(146,286 posts)We ask them to risk their lives, but call them boys? How does that make any sense at all. I was 19 when I voluntarily enlisted in the USAF in 1965. I was not a boy. It was an adult decision. My father was 20 when he was a first pilot in a B-17, flying bombing missions in WWII. A "boy?" Disrespectful!
I find it offensive, to say the least...
oldsoftie
(12,531 posts)Its an affectionate term. Athletes use terms like "me and the boys" is used all the time. Wrestlers call themselves "the boys". You can take offense but I'm sure you're in the small minority. It never bothered me or anyone I served with. My older relatives spoke using that term as well
MineralMan
(146,286 posts)We finally gave 18-year-olds the vote, after so many lost their lives in Vietnam. It was too late for them. For the rest of us to refer to them as boys or girls is simply disrespectful. If they want to call themselves that, that's their choice, but it is not right for the rest of us to do so.
That young Ukrainian woman going to war to defend her country is not a girl. She is a brave woman who is risking her life in going into battle. To say otherwise is to minimize her bravery and adulthood . It is a deep shame to do so.

The AZOV battalion and C12 are neo Nazi right wing nut jobs in Mariupol. I think that's why they are trying to level this town..The Nazis live there..or so they say..

The tl;dr is that this is the first pic on Zaveruha's instagram and this is in her story from yesterday (along with video of the scene in OP from her own POV)
Yes, and when it comes to media exposure of far-right activists, much of it is coming from unwitting* Western/friendly media. Whereas Russian accounts are lazy & recycle the most infamous pics of 2014-15 and take the "Ukronazi" line as a given
*I'd hope
Be remiss not to mention that in 1 respect, her views have become more tolerant. She was infamously pictured with a PG-7 with "Death to the Orthodox" written on it. But today she fights with Bratstvo, an org whose ex-UNA-UNSO founder once described it as the "Orthodox Taliban"
