Judge Jackson is an extraordinary person with an extraordinary American story. We both love this country, but we disagree on judicial philosophy and I am sadly unable to vote for this confirmation, Sasse says

Robert Bork's America is a land in which women would be forced into back-alley abortions, blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters, rogue police could break down citizens' doors in midnight raids, schoolchildren could not be taught about evolution, writers and artists could be censored at the whim of the Government, and the doors of the Federal courts would be shut on the fingers of millions of citizens for whom the judiciary is--and is often the only--protector of the individual rights that are the heart of our democracy. (82,849 posts)But apparently he's had a sudden attack of something or other, and despite her exemplary record, he can't bring himself to vote for Judge Jackson. Sadly, a tweet doesn't afford Sen. Sasse, The Last Centrist/Honest Republican®, quite enough room to explain what differences he has with Judge Jackson about judicial philosophy. I'm sure we're all agreed that it's nothing as uninteresting as racism.

I once hoped Sasse would be one of the better Republicans. He defeated me time after time.

(68,543 posts)a few GOP types who will vote for her or not. It is an election year. And consider that Manchin is voting for her coming from a red state and knowing there may be consequences. This is the state that Trump won with the highest percentage of the vote I believe.
McConnell didn't 'release' Manchin and if he could get Manchin not to vote for her, he would no doubt in my mind. And this is where you look at the situation and realize that without Manchin, there would be no chance of getting a SCOTUS justice approved.
