Could Russia's results in Ukraine have been known or not unexpected?

This isn’t a Biden vs. Trump thing. Joe is obviously of a vastly different attitude towards intel and experience with the Pentagon.

Maybe assessments of Russian expected some of this or some mixture of them.
Logistics especially reliance on rail (that ends at the border)
Equipment from the heavy stuff down to boots (frostbite appears to be a problem)
Corruption is rampant (equipment)
No NCO Corp
Etc.

AND

that Ukraine has put a lot of people through at least basic military training through their draft. 400,000 in the last 8 years or so is a number I’ve seen.

Full US or NATO defense was never on the table we know that. Maybe our civilian and military intelligence knew or educatedly guessed that Russia couldn’t maintain a slow slog.

1. The world coming together as it has AGAINST Russia

was not expected by Putin. That he has been labeled a "War Criminal" numerous times, visuals shown all over the world of his destruction, has put Russia on notice. Putin and his cronies are being watched in ways they never expected.

2. I don't think anybody knew the bravery and competence of the Ukraine army.

3. They've definitely upgraded since 2014

The civilians who’ve had military training and experience has been big too.
There’s a big difference between thinking you can play soldier and having actually been trained is what I’m saying.
