This isnt a Biden vs. Trump thing. Joe is obviously of a vastly different attitude towards intel and experience with the Pentagon.
Maybe assessments of Russian expected some of this or some mixture of them.
Logistics especially reliance on rail (that ends at the border)
Equipment from the heavy stuff down to boots (frostbite appears to be a problem)
Corruption is rampant (equipment)
No NCO Corp
Etc.
AND
that Ukraine has put a lot of people through at least basic military training through their draft. 400,000 in the last 8 years or so is a number Ive seen.
Full US or NATO defense was never on the table we know that. Maybe our civilian and military intelligence knew or educatedly guessed that Russia couldnt maintain a slow slog.

(16,336 posts)was not expected by Putin. That he has been labeled a "War Criminal" numerous times, visuals shown all over the world of his destruction, has put Russia on notice. Putin and his cronies are being watched in ways they never expected.
