DAMN! Andrew Sullivan on ABC: Romney wins VA & FL? South's Electoral Map will = Confederate States

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/andrew-sullivan-to-abc-if-romney-wins-florida-and-va-its-the-confederacy/

During this Sunday’s edition of ABC’s This Week, Daily Beast writer Andrew Sullivan claimed that if Republican nominee Mitt Romney wins back Florida and Virginia in the upcoming 2012 presidential election, especially due to the white vote, then the South’s electoral map will look exactly like the pro-slavery United States Confederacy during the Civil War.

This observation came in response to host George Stephanopoulos noting that the latest polls show that six out of ten white Americans intend to vote for Romney.

If at first you don't secede, try try again. Not sure if that's related to this, but it makes you wonder.

Of course not, that wouldn't fit the Southern-bashing meme.

concerning how red Nebraska or the Dakotas or Missouri or Utah or Montana are?

Yes, we get the occasional "What's the Matter with Kansas?" thread, but that's only because there was a book by the same title.

I guess my point is that there are good, strong Democrats in the Southern states - more so than in Utah or Oklahoma, the two reddest states on the map - and our challenges are much more difficult than those living in blue states. We've got far more of a battle on our hands than a Democrat in New York or California has.

a lot of things that aren't red on your map will be red in Nov. we both know that. and while your analysis of white southern sympathies is largely correct, your implication that rigthward .leanings among whites (particularly males) is a uniquely southern thing leaves you open to accusations of stereotyping.

left out North Carolina. Romney has not won North Carolina even though the State's Rights Party (Republican) and Dixiecrats would like to think so. There is a mini civil war going on in North Carolina. North Carolina is going down to the wire on election day, that will be the shocker of this election if North Carolina adds another lie to the GOPs many lies. If Obama takes North Carolina, it will not even be close and you will hear a drumbeat of the GOP's death the entire evening. The Confederacy's last ray of hope ended in Durham County North Carolina.

is why I said it will be a shocker. Romney is behind in the early voting of North Carolina by a significant margin. He is going to run out of troops just like Robert E. Lee. He needs to recruit minorities to plug up the hole. It will be too late then.

as if Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, the Dakotas and Alaska were part of the confederacy.

Oh, and just for fun, check out the states that the Democrats took in 1920 http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/ and 1908 and 1924

I suspect that a similar margin of white people - especially white men - have been voting Republican for a long time.
