Joe Biden will be viewed as one of the greatest US Presidents in history.

I do not watch TV much, but I watched POTUS speaking with some people in Poland this morning.

This man wears his heart on his sleeve, and he is not ashamed to do so.

He exhibits GENUINE empathy.

He does not make knee-jerk decisions. Every move he makes is thoughtful.

He carries himself, in all ways, with dignity.

He attacks problematic situations aggressively.

He represents the United States as she should be represented.

He is honest about any flaws that he may have.

I guess I'm typing this because since tfg is somehow still making the news, the contrast between the two people is so striking that everytime I see or hear him, I STILL can only still wonder "How in the fucking hell did that guy happen"?

For the record, I feel the same way about President Obama as I do about President Biden. History will be kind to them both. When Obama publicly shed tears over a school shooting, that reinforced how proud I was of him. THAT type of thing should be an unofficial requirement to run for POTUS...empathy that is real and not just political theater.

Apparently, when tfg became POTUS, the requirement at the time was "Candidate must be a lizard".

During a period of time that the country is completely divided and the republicans are not just crazy but criminal and continue to try and win power using every dirty trick in the book. He has kept walking straight through it.

That no longer makes a difference to the majority of American people who believe everything that the right tells them. His approval ratings are terrible; a lot of people who voted for him don't approve of him any longer. He may be know as a truly great president to history, but is going to take a while.

If we work our asses off and build a solid majority:
Let me count the ways we can do it, and more to come:
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216380145

Then we will have The John Lewis Voting Rights LAW, protection for women and POC, and the third and lasting emancipation in this country, following the achievements of Lincoln, and Kennedy/Johnson.

It's not so much a matter of "hearts and minds" as using legitimately won power to do good.

I am reminded of this by Ibram X. Kendi in his epilogue to "Stamped From the Beginning":

This is of course, about racism, but racism is the engine of the Repugnant party.
Emphasis mine:

Protesting against racist power and succeeding can never be mistaken for seizing power. Any effective solution to eradicating American racism must involve Americans committed to antiracist policies seizing and maintaining power over institutions, neighborhoods, counties, states, nations—the world. It makes no sense to sit back and put the future in the hands of people committed to racist policies, or people who regularly sail with the wind of self-interest, toward racism today, toward antiracism tomorrow. An antiracist America can only be guaranteed if principled antiracists are in power, and then antiracist policies become the law of the land, and then antiracist ideas become the common sense of the people, and then the antiracist common sense of the people holds those antiracist leaders and policies accountable.

And that day is sure to come. No power lasts forever. There will come a time when Americans will realize that the only thing wrong with Black people is that they think something is wrong with Black people. There will come a time when racist ideas will no longer obstruct us from seeing the complete and utter abnormality of racial disparities. There will come a time when we will love humanity, when we will gain the courage to fight for an equitable society for our beloved humanity, knowing , intelligently, that when we fight for humanity, we are fighting for ourselves. There will come a time. Maybe, just maybe, that time is now.

resistance from the courts and a divided nation with several supporters of fascism on one side and communism on the other.

There were prominent Americans openly supporting the rise of Nazi Germany and student demonstrations in support of Russian communism.

FDR had to deal with those problems. But he had one thing working strongly in his favor, a Democratic Congress.

So, we had better deliver that for Biden if we want to save democracy like FDR did.

I don't understand what is supposed to be so goddamned awful about Kamala Harris. The right is trying to give her the Hillary treatment, and no one seems to have caught on to it yet. Harris doesn't make an error, but the wingers are painting her as if SHE'S the error. And no one seems to notice.

For that matter, we are seeing Biden's approval rating in the 40s. The only reason it's in the 40s, IMO, is because the GOPers know how to persistently smear a political leader. Biden is the best thing that's happened to the US since Obama left office. He's done well with job growth, with the overall economy, and has been stellar on foreign policy. All the while, the Golden God has been hanging on to Vladimir Putin, who's been killing innocent people by the thousands. And Trump is somehow rated a popular with the GOP while STILL terrified of Putin's wayward glances. WTF?

History will reflect that both President Biden and President Obama were excellent in the job and that America was in better condition when they left office then when they entered office.

Unfortunately there is an entire industry that’s sole purpose is to tear down and denigrate Dems and convince people that they are the enemy of the country. We must not allow them to be successful. People must wake up and engage. If we end up with a Hawley or Cruz or Cotton in the Oval Office it would be a disaster to any progressive programs or policies.

Thank you President Biden for the great speech today.

I’d like to claim him as a boomer but, born in 1942, he’s too old. But he’s too young to belong to the Greatest Generation. I wonder what we call a generation of people who are mostly just decent human beings who quietly go about getting the job done? Their underlying grit polished over the years, albeit imperfectly, by the best boomer values of inclusion and compassion?

To be considered one of the greatest presidents, one has to lead the country through an existential crisis. Washington held the country together during its first days when it could easily be torn apart. Lincoln kept the union together through the Civil War. Roosevelt led the country through WWII and the Great Depression.

It's too early to tell where Biden will fit in, but I see him somewhere in the second quartile—largely due to his bad luck coming during a time when half of Congress refuses to support him despite how his policies would help the country.

NOT a quality I possess at all. And he can talk to Mitch McConnell in the same room without a homicide occurring, which it sure would with me.
