through swamps to Russia-controlled Belarus, where after being arrested and detained dictator Lukashenko has granted him asylum. In his late 40s, he probably doesn't have to worry he'll be sent to Ukraine to fight, but with widespread poverty and political instability in a Putin-controlled police state he has plenty else to worry about.

One is a late 70-something vet who gets angry a lot, the other is his sometime buddy who kind of looks after him, a barber who didn't come across as any sort of astute at all - the type that go along to get along while not really understanding what or why things are happening.

Sort of like Steinbeck's Lenny and George, but if Lenny was as mentally capable as George. They live in a poor red area of a purple state. They didn't even trademark those shirts, they aren't making a dime off their "celebrity".

I remember the one being interviewed, the barber, saying "maybe I watch Fox news too much, but that's all that's on around here".

It was a sad and definitely not flattering article about the two.
