Some folks, with good intentions or otherwise, are saying that most people have already forgotten about it. The major issue that concerns them most at this time is inflation. They say Democrats are just wasting their time investigating what happened on January 6th. People are simply not that concerned about January 6th.
Do you think that is true?
Are the citizens of this country ready to forget that there was an attempted coup to overthrow the election and to keep the same regime in power? How important of an issue is that?

(8,239 posts)But Americans have a short memory. If it did not directly impact them, they could care less. I wish the 1/6 committee was able to get up and working closer to the domestic terrorists attack on the Capitol. That said, they should complete their work and let the chips fall where they may.
People died, democracy was attacked, an officer had to take a life in defense of American Democracy, the whole world watched in horror. Many who were directly impacted lives will never be quite the same.
It makes me sad to think this way, but few care.

How could they ever forget?

(8,239 posts)Republican Members and their staffs have already started re-writing what happened that day. Many of them were scared shitless on 1/6 and were still talking about it for a couple of weeks after, then the tone changed and they started to embrace those who attacked them. It is like an odd Patti Hurst syndrome. Unlike Hurst who spent a long time with her attackers, the Republican Members and Staff want to be with the in crowd of their party (the Trump crowd) so they have changed their tune. The video evidence, their own statements at the time, none of them now matter.
It is not an easy place to work.

I will NEVER stop.
You should see how surprised MAGAs are on Twitter when I tell them that.
I make it very clear.

Don't misunderstand me I won't forget but I don't think it matters to most any Republican that supported Trump.

(20,764 posts)I recently substituted in a 5th grade class and they had to do a report on current affairs. One boy did a report on 1/6 and he had a good synopsis of the day and his bibliography was excellent. I was blown away by this kids report. So if a young kid knows about this a lot of people wont forget. I know his teacher will give him an A+ on that report.

(6,653 posts)Pearl Harbor - I'm born the same year and too young to remember. But it and WW2 shaped my upbringing more than anything else.
60's Assassinations - JFK and Bobby Kennedy, MLK - My early 20's - that period ranks very high in events that changed me.
Jan 6 and the entire fall of the GOP - Proof coup can happen even here. No one is immune.
George Floyd and BLM marches - Proof the progress since the 60's still has a very long way to go.
There are others, lots of others, but I'd say these are my top 4.

(6,653 posts)A lot has happened in 80 years.
9/11 is huge but it didn't really change my thought processes and view of the world much. I was fortunate, did not lose anyone dear to me in it. Terrorism at home was already on my radar. 9/11 was a matter of scale and made it impossible to ignore anymore. Mostly I came to appreciate first responders in a much greater way.
The ongoing issues with police and black community are more close to home in my life. When it is so brazen that a police office knowing he is being filmed goes to such an extreme, expecting no accountability, right out in the open, when other officers stand there and watch him and do nothing. ... I should have, but did not see that coming. That eye opener affected me quite a lot and still does.
