The war in Ukraine is proving extraordinarily lethal for Russian generals, the gray men bedecked in service medals, who are being aggressively targeted by Ukrainian forces and killed at a rate not seen since World War II.
Ukrainian officials say their forces have killed seven generals on the battlefield, felled by snipers, close combat and bombings.

In all, at least 15 senior Russian commanders have been killed in the field, said Markiyan Lubkivsky, a spokesperson for the Ukraine Ministry of Defense.

The Russian government has not confirmed the deaths of its generals.

The others died the following day to a few weeks later from wounds suffered.
I think the Civil War highlights how poor medical care was during that time. The Confederates lost more men to illness then to the battlefield.

(2,138 posts)Russia military units are micromanaged. The leadership is very hands on, partly because the lower ranks aren't trusted, and partly because the lower ranks aren't skilled.
I have also read that due to low morale and self sabotage, the generals are being "encouraged" to be at the frontlines, to ensure that all goes per plan and stiffen the spines of the front line troops.

He said that the Red Army still employs an outdated practice of sending officers up to and including generals into the field of combat, where the Ukrainians keep top strategists, such as generals, behind to coordinate strategy. They are never seen on the battlefield. Difficult to kill, even more difficult to capture and interrogate.

(1,967 posts)and will spread to the populace. Wouldn't it be great if the Russian people rose up and over threw their government for a more self representative one. They tried over 100 years ago and got conned. They thought they made it 35 years ago and got conned. Maybe they have chance this time.
