Donna caused storm surges of up to 13 ft in the Florida Keys and 11 ft surges along the southwest coast of Florida. Four to eight ft surges were reported along portions of the North Carolina coast, with 5 to 10 ft surges along portions of the New England coast. Heavy rainfalls of 10 to 15 inches occurred in Puerto Rico, 6 to 12 inches in Florida, and 4 to 8 inches elsewhere along the path of the hurricane.

inconvenience at worst, but I admit to hoping that the flood surge causes problems for the Wall Street gang!

My mother use to also tell us about the Holland tunnel fire. Our hair use to stand on end and we would get completely silent while my father drove through the tunnel. I think that was her goal.

The WFC was built on landfill to the west of it.

Cortlandt no longer runs to West Street. It is only one block now. All of those businesses died long ago when the WTC ws built.

Moms and kids were taken off rooftops of 2 story houses by Coast Guard in boats (Dads were at work). This is IN New York City. In those days there was a CG station nearby. Now--I don't think so.
