(118,281 posts)deep insecurities: they may worry (for example) that others could judge them negatively because of their histories of unprovoked violence against innocent civilians
These insecurities sometimes cause war criminals to lash out with unprovoked violence against innocent civilians; and it is also important to remember that provoking war criminals can lead to unprovoked violence:
"Mariupol asked me nicely not to throw her down the stairs. But this made me very angry, because she knows perfectly well I would never do anything like that; and so I threw her down the stairs. It's her fault for provoking me"

(17,536 posts)Nations, like families, my fight like hell among themselves, but will come together for an attack from the outside. However, it is good for the Russian people to know what needs to happen to return to the world fold, and perhaps that outweighs the possible negatives.
Sanctions need to remain in place as long as a criminal heads the Russian state. The Russians have a path back to respect in the world but it does not include attacking peaceful neighbors for financial gain. Putin is the worst kind of thief, he doesn't just steal property, he has stolen thousands of lives, those of the Ukrainians and those of his own troops. He needs to face the world from a scaffold; his meteoric rise need to end with a short drop.

(111,254 posts)The twin quagmires of Iraq and Afghanistan and the ongoing fallout from both have left a rotten taste in our mouths about that.
Regime change will happen there, he can't live forever and he's made some colossal blunders and because his paranoia has isolated him so completely, he's clearly lost the plot. Collapses of strongman regimes often happen very qyucjkt and without warning. Whether or not it wll make a difference to Ykraine depends on which thug replaces him.

Probably got a lot of press phone calls and texts asking what the Pres meant. They should have just said you'll have to ask the President.
However, He was absolutely correct. He said "Putin cannot remain in power".
He is a mass murderer. He is dangerous to the entire northern hemisphere.
Biden never said he has to be removed from office by force by foreign powers. He means for the Russian people and politicians to do whatever it takes to legally remove this murderous, baby and child killer, civilization threatening autocrat/dictator out of power and if possible lock him up and throw away the key.
