Over the last 7 days, JHU's reports of average daily cases and deaths were 31131/795.
Remember when that was mostly concentrated in NY/NJ and the health care heroes were applauded??
Now it's just silence, ignoring the potential need to mask up again after spring break.
I hope I'm wrong.
((PS. The reported case totals may be low because many aren't motivated to seek out pre-holiday tests right now.))

(12,286 posts)The reason it has fallen off the Sundays news shows is that Covid is no longer a primary concern for vaccinated individuals and case counts continue to plummet.
If that changes itll be in the news.

People with multiple vaccinations and non-hospitalization infections have a very low chance of dying from Covid, or being hospitalized for that matter. We had dire predictions on here about super spreader events from the Super Bowl to the millions who are now going to big concerts and events like the NCAA. They haven't happened. Like it or not we are not going back to mask mandates and shutdowns.

(3,284 posts)In Europe, there are often many more cases (per 100K), but many fewer deaths.
This probably is a result of more EU testing catching a-symptomatic cases, and also of course their better health care systems that mean people are healthier going in, and also have access to free treatment when they get Covid.
And their vax rates are considerably higher, so many people who get Covid aren't getting very sick.
The US daily Covid death rate is still pretty horrific-- more than 10 times as many who die daily in auto accidents.
I haven't seen much info about how to bring the death rate down, but I think that Covid will be a disaster here in the US until that's down to European levels.
