Dozens of Texans lost everything in a blaze. Now more evacuations are in place as authorities warn o

of dangerous fire weather

David Lipson sat in his dining room talking on the phone with his son when he smelled the smoke. He grabbed his dog, his gun and a pair of guitars he bought in 1976 -- the year he married his wife -- and ran out of his home near Gorman, Texas.

Flames from the Eastland Complex were quickly approaching, and from a nearby hilltop Lipson took a last look at his home of more than two decades. It's where he raised his two youngest sons, took care of his 97-year-old father until his passing in 2018 and where he comforted his wife until she took her last breaths two years later. In a matter of hours, everything was gone.

"Every memory, every picture that I ever had in my whole life. Everything is gone," Lipson said.

The 64-year-old father of four, now retired after decades as a woodworker, was unable to afford insurance for the house. His son, Bradley, started a GoFundMe in hopes of helping his father rebuild in the same spot.

Perhaps the people of Texas should remember when John Cornyn, on the Senate floor, said that forest fires were caused by "... failing to undertake proper forest management which we know can prevent fires".

Maybe people can sue those responsible for the improper management of their land to receive some compensation for their loses.

In spite of that I'm not going to stoop to their level of nastiness. The people who had losses in Texas still need help.

to and they pay in % . If you lose your roof and it’s 20 years old they may pay for half of it. Fortunately I don’t live in Florida. I lost my roof in CT the year I moved in. The roof was old and I new I would have to replace it but we got a huge storm with winds over 50 miles. I lost a few shingles and I got a new roof. Apparently in CT if you lose a shingle and you had winds of 50 miles you get a new roof. Then my insurance went higher but my roof looks great 👍

If there were really wildfires in Texas, wouldn't the media be broadcasting scenes of Armageddon 24/7 and throwing shade and blame at the political party that controls Texas?

Or do they just do the whole "hellscape" reporting when the fires are in California?

I "almost" didn't visit my daughter in California last year. Apparently, the entire state was on fire because of a spark from Hunter Biden's laptop in a homeless encampment that was built by Governor Newsome.

Come on! We know that Texas is the most beautiful, American Heartland state there is. If there were fires there, I am sure it was started by a trans kid burning Hillary's emails, not by any book burning and stuff.
