The jokes are not that funny and with all money spent putting on these type shows could go towards helping the less fortunate! Just saying!

(2,307 posts)Some were not. And as far as helping the less fortunate, you could say that about almost anything anybody or any entity spends money
on.

(1,299 posts)But I almost always submit, and for good reason. I watch, She Who Must Be Obeyed colors things on her iPhone, and at times I am the richer for it. Will Smith and a woman who followed shortly after him made profoundly moving speeches that I hope will be in wide circulation tomorrow.
I despise the whole People magazine culture and all the celebrity crap, but when it comes right down to it, there are almost always a few folks who dress up more than I would want to and poke the authorities and the assholes and racists and such right where it hurts.

And unlike back then when I had to know who everybody was, now, I have no idea who most of these people are! And I dont have to anymore!
But then again, we dont get out much, anyway.

(32,675 posts)I don't watch drama, horror movies and awards shows. I don't care if others do. I just don't.
Old age, I guess, with less time left in life, I spend more of my time on things that bring me joy.

(86,593 posts)Waste of time and money on awards issued on a skewed scale.
I was discussing this with friend the other day, a friend whose entire working career was working in the movies. He and I both agree that not only are the awards ceremonies overblown and wasteful but so are the movie productions themselves. They make big messes wherever they go on location and rarely clean up their messes, most notably environmental damage they usually refuse to mitigate.
If the Hollywood model of movie making dies, it wouldn't be a bad thing. There are lots of indies out there making better nonformula movies from great scripts for far less $$ and production messes left behind.

(32,083 posts)I never understood the appeal. The only thing I find more tedious are the next-day re-hashings of the event.
