I have a dark secret. I wake up at stupid o'clock every morning. I grab a mug of java, head into my lair and start up the internet machine.
I check my mail, go to windy.com to check the weather for the day, then read the Guardian.
I then hit the DU.
@6:00 am I open another tab in the browser and tune into the broadcast news. Rotate through them, BBC, MSNBC, CNN, DW, Fox.
@7:00 C-SPAN for Washington Journal. I continue to go through the DU as I listen. I'm listening now as I type. The earth has turned enough that the light of day is evident.
About 15 minutes ago I tabbed back to Fox and suddenly the scourge of humanity was on for comment. Newton Leroy Gingrich.
Of course he was spewing but as he was speaking about inflation he said that the price of gas and food was what is going to sink the Dems ship at midterms. He made the astute observation that the price of food was the highest it has ever been.
I, myself, being an old fart, flashed back to my childhood and 5¢ candy and thought, " Of course they're the highest they have ever been. Duh!"
Not intending to take what he said out of context, he did mention the war and the fact that Ukraine is the 4th largest exporter of food.
This is what the Republicans are pounding, the cost of gas and food and have been pounding for weeks and will continue to pound until they find something else to pound.
We are not going to make Fox, Newton, TFG go away and in all probability me will be unable to get their minions' opinions to change. It is up to us to the talk to enough of our likeminded and pound them with the importance to get to the polls in November despite any obstacles or obstructions they place in front of us.
There are more of us than them and and if we engage enough people with our message we can, to paraphrase Grovel Norquist, drown them in a bathtub.
Enough typing for now. I still have a lot of posts to read. I'm a bit behind in my usual routine.

(30,984 posts)Candy bars cost 10 to 20 times what they cost when I was in school. No reason why anything else should be any cheaper

(3,474 posts)So the price of housing couldn't inflate at a greater rate than the cost of a Hershey bar!

(30,984 posts)The rent for my apartment is now $905. Not too far off from the Hershey bar rule. Of course they could raise my rent on the next lease anytime they want

(3,474 posts)I don't think there's many areas in the country today you could get a modest house for that price. Even your apartment is considered a very good deal in most places.

(4,552 posts)Compare us to other countries and there's no other place on the planet that has cheaper food than the U.S.. We spend around 5.5% of disposable income on food. That is way lower than the rest of the world. Cheap plentiful food leads to strong support for government.
