Last night's "slap" at the Oscars has got everyone, including liberal sites like this one, talking about it. But I'm sure most of you know that the academy was under a lot of pressure from progressives (including Sean Penn) to feature a live speech by President Zelensky during the broadcast. Many thought the ceremony should have been canceled.
Now those concerns and critiques are completely sidelined. I don't know what happened, but I can see that the Hollywood elite have benefitted from escaping criticism.
For those of you who weren't aware, Sean Penn asked the academy to feature Zelensky during the ceremony and the academy declined.

The spotlight of the show was rightfully on the winners.

(115,280 posts)by a couple of rich celebrities is typical of the hamster-wheel brains of our media and too many of us. I have no fucks to give about the incident, other than to be amused by the OMGDIDYOUSEEWHATJUSTHAPPENED reaction of much of the universe. Obviously the 2022 Academy Awards will be remembered for this silly incident while the Oscar winners themselves will mostly be forgotten. Who will remember the name of the Best Picture winner, an obscure feel-good movie nobody has seen because it's only on a streaming service that isn't Netflix?
And certainly Zelenskyy has better things to do than to participate in that hot mess of self-adulating celebrities and bad fashion.
