I'm betting that the US wouldn't give up an inch of territory to anyone and these pundits wouldn't demand it.

But, from what they are suggesting, if Putin demanded Alaska, they would say "OK, sure!". I suspect they wouldn't.

3. Putin has already played this game with Crimea

"Oh, give me what I want and I'll leave you alone"....then, a little while later he comes back for another chunk.

Can't give him what he demands this time, because if they do, he'll be back for another chunk, then another, and another.

In your very good neighbor example:

He takes the Fusion and gets away with that, comes back later for the Tesla, burns down the garage, then, eventually, takes the house because there were no real consequences for any of it.
