... This whole thing is just getting to weird for words.
Next thing ya know Ted Cruz will say something useful. Tom Cotton will seem human. Josh Hawley will say he was just kidding. The entire Republican senate and house will burn their communist party membership cards.
At any moment I expect Putin to announce Biden was right about whether or not he should remain in power. Then he will rip off his mask, revealing himself to actually be Ming the Merciless and that he has had enough of the human race.
Finally Charlie Brown will connect with that damn football, probably breaking a toe in the process.
Ya know Thomas will have to plead the 5th if they manage to get him there. Big if, but there it is. Just weirdness all around.

(14,959 posts)The argument will go like: Congress has no direct oversight role of SCOTUS. The Senate provides advice and consent on justice nominees, but that is a one time gate-keeping event. And they provide operating funds through the budget of course. Yes, they could impeach him, and convict and remove him, but they can't subpoena him for testimony. So impeach him, or don't. Either way he's not going to talk to them.

(86,569 posts)I can see where this will be yet another wedge in DC. I just hope that law enforcement remembers its job, he may be a top judge but he's still not out of reach for law enforcement unless we allow it.

(5,556 posts)because him being placed in a position to plead the 5th is about as likely as finding gold in my cat's litterbox.
It's an election year, our position is precarious and polling unfavorable, and 1/6 just isn't a major issue for most voters. They're not going to spend political capital and risk backlash by going after Thomas himself or even his wife.
I know this is not what DU wants to hear, but it's how this is very likely to play out

(94,508 posts)Unless your argument is that he had some pillow talk with Ginni that would go counter to her testimony, this would be a meaningless effort.
