(8,810 posts)but alot of people beat me to it.......Mueller turned out to be a big fat Nothing-Burger, and I am beginning this will be the same thing.
Along with the DA in Manhattan..............
I guess the biggest disappointment is we are hearing not a lot out of the Dems, in spite of the fact that they have a ton of ammunition to lob at the Republicans. How can we get them to stand up and get going????? Seriously??????
If the totally corrupt Repubs take the House and Senate, (probably by hook & by crook), it is over folks....game over.....
forever more people...........

(2,357 posts)let their clerks do all the work and rely on their clerks' decisions. Perhaps he didn't belong on the SCOTUS. Can't believe it takes so long for a DOJ to make decisions. Don't mistake my doubts -- no AG should be a president's puppet (like Barr). But it surely seems to be taking Garland too much time to make his cases.

(13,566 posts)And I gotta post this again.
The American people deserve clarification from POTUS regarding his philosophy of accountability for GOP crimes, because there is this from November 2020 that has not been re-visited.
"Knowing what we know now about the coup attempt and the seditious conspiracies by Republicans, is this still your philosophy of accountability, Mr. President?"
That is the question that needs asking.

WASHINGTON President-elect Joe Biden has privately told advisers that he doesn't want his presidency to be consumed by investigations of his predecessor, according to five people familiar with the discussions, despite pressure from some Democrats who want inquiries into President Donald Trump, his policies and members of his administration.
Biden has raised concerns that investigations would further divide a country he is trying to unite and risk making every day of his presidency about Trump, said the sources, who spoke on background to offer details of private conversations.
They said he has specifically told advisers that he is wary of federal tax investigations of Trump or of challenging any orders Trump may issue granting immunity to members of his staff before he leaves office. One adviser said Biden has made it clear that he "just wants to move on."
Another Biden adviser said, "He's going to be more oriented toward fixing the problems and moving forward than prosecuting them."

(3,993 posts)I think Garland was hired to do this job - go forward, not back.
I think Trump and other high-level officials will never be prosecuted.

(13,566 posts)But someone either needs to directly ask POTUS if his thinking has changed now, or.....
....we need to be SHOWN that it has changed. Soon. VERY SOON.
There's a great unease in the land about this.

(3,993 posts)Obama, Biden, and Garland are all institutionalists. Their highest concern is the perpetuation of the system under which we all live.
It's more important to them than actual justice.
Bringing Trump to trial could be very dangerous for our republic, given the followers that he has. Imagine Jan 6, but with guns.

(6,446 posts)This isn't on record and i'm pretty sure he'd deny having said it. So how can we ask the question about his purported thinking if it comes from anonymous sources?

(19,193 posts)but in the meantime the GQP and greedy fossil fuel companies are creating two more to replace it.
Biden is barely keeping his head above water with this present strategy. Time is running out. We're about to lose our democracy to a bunch of christo-fascist moonbats who want to turn the United States into Russia West.
And all the Biden administration wants to do is be fair to the people who want to destroy it.

(13,566 posts)Eventually the price must be paid, as the seditionists and power-hungry become increasingly crazed by the inevitable loss of power they will suffer as inevitable demographic shift happens.
Biden is trying to keep the plates spinning, bless him.
And it's not all his fault. Dems have been glossing over GOP crimes for decades now. Decades.
Bless him, he wanted to fix Covid and the economy before the s**t hit the fan.
It's a high wire act.
And scary as hell for all of us.

(2,839 posts)politicians (usually loudmouth, misogynistic, alpha-male douchebag republicans) make campaign blatherings of being 'tough on crime.' Sure they are. Just not when they commit them.
We cannot nor will we ever have a civilized society without accountability. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people, from the very top on down conspiring to overthrow our government. Multitudes of criminal activity. Mountains of evidence. Hell, the perpetual projection machine of the republicans tells us daily what they are guilty of.
If moving forward is such a wonderful warm and fuzzy panacea then why do we prosecute any crimes at all? Those all involve going back also to methodically gather evidence, put the pieces of the criminal puzzle together all the way up to the present day to put the perpetrators of a crime (or crimes) in fucking prison. That's how you move forward!

(2,732 posts)Driving the news: The DOJ is seeking $34.1 million for the effort, according to President Biden's budget request for next year, which was released Monday.
What they're saying: Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said on Monday that the Jan. 6 investigation is "among the most wide-ranging and most complex that this department has ever undertaken."
She added: "Regardless of whatever resources we seek or get, let's be very, very clear: We are going to continue to do those cases. We are going to hold those perpetrators accountable, no matter where the facts lead us, [and] as the attorney general has said, no matter at what level. We will do those cases."

(9,971 posts)of Trump and the key planners of J6, you have to wonder whether indeed there is any investigation going on. Yesterday on Nicole Wallaces show Figliuzzi said that he knew nothing of any investigation. He also said that the DOJ should have been doing a full investigation separate from, and indeed ahead of, the J6 Committee. As I recall, during Muellers investigation, we knew when Grand Juries were seated. If the DOJ has seated a Grand Jury, its the biggest secret in DC.

(16,935 posts)I still see traitor signs and flags hanging. If I don't have my grandkids in the car, I flip them off, hand in the window, because I hope the traitors flying that garbage see me.
I realized today that any news about traitor getting his ass handed to him is like Christmas that never comes. I am not concerned with the traitors who support sedition, subversion and overthrow of the U.S.A. They can go to Hell and the sooner the better. I am concerned about loyal Americans who are defending our country by wearing ourselves out supporting Democratic candidates, sending our disposable income to campaigns, hoping that our last dollar or two will be that last little bit a Democratic candidate needs to defeat a slimeball that no one vetted, at least in an upright sort of way, that if possible is worse than the traitorous scum already defacting in the halls of our Capitol, our Supreme Court, and in various branches of government and public service.
Is AG Garland overwhelmed by the extent of the roots and branches of the poison tree and how far it has penetrated into the garden of our Democracy? Is he trying to spread a net that will reap a harvest of all the rotten fruit? I don't know what he is doing, but I wish we could know. I wish I knew that my country was actively defended by these people into which we are putting and faith and trust.
I applaud the Jan. 6th Congressional Committee. To me, an average citizen with mind made up, the evidence they've collected is like a bloody hand on the perpetrator pointing right back at him.
The country is already torn apart by criminals and traitors. We need the legally elected government and legally appointed officials to do their jobs, and come down hard on the criminals and traitors so we can start healing.
The gd kid gloves need to come off.
