Biden knew exactly what he was doing. and I have no doubt that for all the supposed hand wringing on the part of the Republicans, there are three reasons that they should be very worried right now.

1. Biden is acting presidential. After four years of disaster after disaster on the foreign stage, Biden basically has stood down Putin and said what everyone believes but no one was willing to state - "Putin must go." This was on par with Reagan saying "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall," and the GOP knows that their front runner is increasingly looking like a Russian toady even to the Republicans.

2. People will put up with a lot when they believe that there's a just war going on. Biden was honest - he has said that people will be inconvenienced, and that will the US will do what it can to mitigate the economic aspects of the war on the American people, the sacrifice is worthwhile. That undercuts the economic arguments against Biden, and makes those arguments, and the ones making them seem petty at best, and quislings at worst.

3. The lines are being drawn now, not just by the hardcore political junkies, but by the man or woman in the street, that there is a Russian thread that runs throughout January 6 and the attempt to overturn the election, and from there back to dozens of Republicans in various positions of power. If, as I suspect, the funds for continuing this effort dry up as the sanctions become ever more restrictive, you're going to see many races where there was seemingly a lot of dark money pumped to highly unqualified candidate campaigns throughout the country in the last few years begin to falter, one by one. I think this is the reason that we're suddenly seeing a lot of draconian legislation showing up all at once - the well's drying up, and the people behind these efforts are trying to put a totalitarian layer in place to draw in their most radical base, at the risk of losing independents. I predict we're going to see a blowout in November for the Democrats, not because they've been terribly good at messaging, but because the GOP's true goals have now become obvious.
