How deep is the corruption?
With the inexplicable actions of Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and the inactions of our esteemed Attorney General and the Dept of Justice, one cannot help but wonder who is being paid off and does justice really matter in this country? It is understandable.
Of course, we do not know what Merrick Garland knows. That is probably a safe bet. Perhaps he doesn't want to charge Mark Meadows with contempt because there are much more serious charges that await? We are advised to be patient.
But still, there is that small itch that needs to be scratched.

(21,337 posts)wanted Trump to replace James Comey, after he was fired, with Merrick Garland? Maybe Lee wanted to open up Garland's spot on the DC circuit, but still, a Republican Senator was OK having Garland head the FBI.

(111,095 posts)But Lee was writing a book at the time and he seems rather delusional at times.
Personally, I have more questions about the present FBI Director than the present Attorney General. Sometimes they seem to be so far behind the scenes that they are almost invisible.

(21,337 posts)Merrick Garland was involved in at least 10 Federalist Society conventions, although there is no proof that Garland is an actual member.
He was pretty involved with them.

(9,988 posts)to be conservative enough that Republicans would vote for him. Of course, we all know how that turned out. I believe Biden chose Garland as AG as a sort of consolation prize, and I may be in the minority here, but I believe he was the wrong person for the job. He has been described as slow and methodicalperhaps good qualities in a Supreme Court justice but not in a DOJ virtually destroyed by Trump and Barr. By seemingly doing nothing about the planners and funders of the coup attempt, the DOJ has allowed Republicans many months to paint any investigation as just politics. The shock of January 6 has worn off because it has been allowed to disappear.
The amount of time that has elapsed since January 6 is not reasonable. Yes, a thorough investigation takes time, but there has been no indication that the DOJ is doing any investigations of anyone but the foot soldiers of January 6. And even many of them have been given very light sentences, as if attempted insurrection was nothing more than a misdemeanor of no importance.

(21,337 posts)Mueller is given a hard time here and yet in 3 months Mueller indicted or got guilty pleas from 34 people and 3 companies.
Mueller also laid out the evidence to indict Donald Trump;
1. Stormy Daniels, campaign finance violation (individual one) Garland chose not to prosecute, the statute of limitations has expired.
2. Evidence for Numerous obstruction of justice cases against Donald Trump, none of which have been prosecuted.

(9,010 posts)of course there is. If you have a lot of money, you get the best lawyers, and you get a light sentence, if any at all.

(9,670 posts)Present company excepted, of course, but it appears that half the country would do anything, legal or illegal, to permanently wrest control from the people to give it to the billionaires and those who profit by that scenario.

(21,337 posts)he would never be "bought off."
The thing is that I have noticed a trend, and that trend keeps involving the Federalist Society and members of the Federalist Society.
We know it picks the SC justices who have been brazenly partisan in issues such as reversing the Wisconsin redistricting map that was approved by the Wisconsin SC which would have added another black voting district, totally against the Constitutional right of the states to run their own elections.
We also know that dark money funds the Federalist Society and we know that it has written the anti-voter/election laws throughout the states.
We also know that when Comey was fired that Mike Lee wanted Trump to appoint Garland as FBI Director. Garland attended at least 10 Federalist Society events although there is no proof that he is a member. Trump instead appointed Chris Wray as FBI Director, a member of the Federalist Society.
Ted Cruz and John Eastman were high ranking coup plotters, and both of them belong to the Federalist Society.
Is what I am saying a conspiracy theory, coincidence, something to be pursued?

(111,095 posts)A partisan investigation by only one political Party is doomed to failure.
Everything will be on the slow track until after the November elections. If Republicans win the House, the investigation will more or less be over. The DOJ will continue the facade of justice.

But you're right - it will be a failure of democracy.

(21,337 posts)Mueller was given a narrow range for him to investigate. he was told that DOJ was following the money and he should not.
In 3 months Bob Mueller got guilty pleas or indicted;
George Popadopoulas
Paul Manafort
Rick Gates
Michael Flynn
13 Russian Nationals
3 Russian companies
Richard Pinedo
Alex van der Zwaan
Konstantin Kilimnik
12 Russian GRU officers
Michael Cohen
Roger Stone
Sam Patten
Mueller also laid out the evidence to indict Trump in the Stormy Daniels case. (individual one)
Mueller also laid out the evidence to indict Trump for numerous cases of obstruction of justice.
The only reason that Mueller did not indict Trump is because he followed the DOJ memo that a sitting president can't be indicted. When Trump left office merrick garland chose not to indict trump.
