I always allow for the possibility. Right now, I don't see Putin being a big influence in 2024, but another powerful backer(s) might take on the mantle. That said, I'm really not sure that Trump is of any value to anyone anymore. I suppose we should watch out for another candidate with dubious foreign and domestic backing.

Both Parties have been neglectful, especially the Democrats and the GOP has been addicted to money....profiting from their political position opportunities....So, to expose all of tRump is just plain shameful for all...being exposed....gross neglect of duty over the past 20 years at least.

The Democrats just sat on the sidelines, not wanting to make waves and possibly screw up a re-election...They chose poorly and we suffer now....

I'm not saying "all wealthy real estate and investment players in New York" do what he did, but a significant number of political players and mobsters/mobster adjacent real estate and investment types have done the same, and they're using their political pull to try and make any investigation into that sort of fraud go away, lest the law go after them, next.

It's just New York politics.

and charging him with crimes. A lot of people are no doubt hesitating to take action for that reason alone. It could open the floodgates for every partisan hack with an axe to grind to bring a President or former President up on charges. They don't have to stick; they just have to gum up the works of government just enough so that everything comes to a grinding halt. That's what anti-government right-wingers want more than anything else in the world.

… was not prepared to handle a corrupt idiot like Тяцмp. Much of what we have, for 200 years, expected from a president was not actually codified into criminal law. We never had to do that because such conduct was considered unthinkable in the US. As a consequence, his bullshit is often not - technically - illegal. It’s like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Also, he actually is pretty good at walking right up to the line, but not quite crossing it. Everyone has a talent, even corrupt idiots. That’s his. He’s always lived that philosophy of life - get away with everything you can and then lie and dodge consequences. He pretty good at that.

And, one major political party covers for him because they need his base to get elected in their own elections. The fact that they created the monster is almost irrelevant because no matter what, they still have to live with him.

And, I think our side still fears the political fallout of prosecuting him or heaping consequences upon him. 70m people still voted for him in the last election - even after what he demonstrated over 4 years of chaos and insanity in the WH. That’s a lot of Americans to piss off when your side also depends on getting votes to stay in power.

I’m not disparaging Democrats. I’m asking a question. Merrick Garland has done nothing. I was just listening to a news snippet that said it’s been 105 days since the J6 committee referred the Mark Meadows subpoena issue to the DOJ. Why is the DOJ doing nothing? And don’t tell me I don’t know that they aren’t doing anything unless you can prove they are!
