General Discussion

.... punishment?
Every day I read DU, and every day there are posts about how TFG has thumbed his nose at us all AGAIN. Today it is the 7 hours of missing records during the peak of the insurrection.
Last week it was the two DA in New York resigning in protest. And the DA Bragg(?) hinting he will not prosecute.
The constant thread about where is Garland? Good Question! Let's not forget the Mueller investigation (LOL).
Then I look at the punishment NOT being dealt out to the Jan 6th insurrectionist. Hell, I got more punishment from my high school principal than some of these lawbreakers seem to get.
Then there is General Flynn, who swore an oath that he has ignored. Experts say he could be recalled to active duty and punished under the UCMJ. Why hasn't he?
And I can see the clock ticking away.
I'm waiting for the day when the Jan 6th investigators tell us we have ALL the data we need BUT not enough time to bring the perps to justice.
The only consistent thing in my world is the daily flood of emails "we need your opinion" surveys..... no they don't; it's just a hook to ask for money. 90% + I don't even know who they are that NEEDS my donation.
SORRY FOR THIS RANT. I had to ask.

(90,335 posts)... the investigations into him
The end of Congressional investigations, but DOJ will be under democratic control at least until 1/2025. Also, if we lose the House but keep the Senate, the House 1/6 Committee can be reconstituted as a Senate Commitee.

(5,523 posts)a DOJ? Who knew?
What can I tell you ?. DOJ is the only entity at the federal level with the authority to prosecute.

(4,032 posts)justice for ALL. At this point far too many of us are scratching our heads in utter disbelief at the apparent apathy or at the least dismally slow pace of the DOJ and SDNY.

(36,461 posts)The DU community is pretty much split between those who have faith & those who don't. I don't have faith, but I'm holding out hope. Timing is important, since Americans have such short attention spans, but very soon the GOP will start screaming that it's too close to an election for political public hearings. I hope our side doesn't delay again.

(25,852 posts)Count me among the many who's been convinced for a long time that nothing will happen to the instigators.
Oh, a few or maybe even a few dozen of those who actually participated in the insurrection will be punished, but lightly at best. Those who plotted and encouraged it? Meh.

(9,478 posts)And all they got was community service or a small fine despite purposely trying to commit fraud. But if you are a black person on parole that tries to even register to vote, it's 5+ years in prison.

(5,523 posts)to know there are 2 different sets of laws in this country. One for the HAVES and one for the HAVE-NOTS.

(16,095 posts)there was someone advocating for just dropping it because some 'swing voters' might be uncomfortable or bored with the idea of consequences for corruption and criminality.
I just can't with this anymore. Apparently, laws aren't a thing and corruption is A-OK if you're a republican.
