Note: The missing Trump phone logs should prompt the 1/6 committee to pursue phone records of co-conspirators who talked to him that day. A close look at the situation shows the committee may already have some of them. That'll confirm what's been omitted:

Opinion | Three big takeaways from Trumps missing Jan. 6 phone logs
New revelations strengthen the case for the Jan. 6 committee to get more aggressive.

In another bid for the Worse than Watergate files, it turns out there is a seven-hour gap in Donald Trumps phone logs on the day of the insurrection attempt. According to documents obtained by The Post and CBS News, there is no record of then-President Trumps calls on Jan. 6, 2021, from just after 11 a.m. to shortly before 7 p.m.
That means theres a big black hole in the record when it comes to Trumps conversations throughout the period during which the mob assaulted the U.S. Capitol and violence raged over several hours.
The documents, which were turned over to the House select committee examining Jan. 6, do show that Trump had many calls before 11 a.m. and after 6 p.m. that were apparently related to the coup effort. That suggests Trump held many calls related to the insurrection between those two times that are not officially accounted for.
Here are three big takeaways:
The non-cooperation of Trumps allies makes this report worse.
We already know Trump spoke to many key players by phone while the violence unfolded, thanks to dogged reporting and the Jan. 6 committees investigation thus far.

(894 posts)So the refusal of participation from key players who spoke to Trump during that period and could illuminate his potential understanding of the violence as a weapon to complete the procedural coup is the other piece of the coverup. It makes the missing phone logs look even worse.

(7,402 posts)Have the meta data on those phone calls during those 7 1/2 hours? Or do they not have the data on secure lines?
Someone ordered those phone logs to be destroyed. Someone delivered those phone logs to a third party that destroyed those phone logs. 3 people right there that heed to head straight to jail. Just following orders is no excuse. Plus, there is security that failed to keep those records secure, so they need to be held accountable as well.
How many of those civil servants are still on the job?

(3,724 posts)of course all the outgoing calls would be on burner phones but do the logs not show any incoming calls? There's zero chance no incoming calls came in during the 7.5 hours in question. Wouldn't a lack of incoming calls in the logs indicate the logs were illegally altered?

(15,276 posts)Trump going and coming for his speech at the rally. 11AM would be about right for Trump leaving for the stage. I doubt there were many calls from then until he returned to the WH. More interesting will be the calls made from when he arrived back at the WH and 6:45 when the next call is logged in.
I think the plotting all happened before Trump left the WH on January 6th, then after he returned to the WH, it was watching it all play out. The only thing to discover is the WH interaction with DoD regarding deployment of the National Guard.
