"SNIP......

The Atlantic: “The U.S. population grew at the slowest pace in history in 2021, according to census data released last week. That news sounds extreme, but it’s on trend. First came 2020, which saw one of the lowest U.S. population-growth rates ever. And now we have 2021 officially setting the all-time record.”

“U.S. growth didn’t slowly fade away: It slipped, and slipped, and then fell off a cliff.”

......SNIP"

Sincerely,

Millennials and Zoomers.

Maybe we can get a helpful lecture from people. "You need to create a pregnancy by your boot straps!"

It's always so motivating.

We would have wanted at least a third but can't afford to do so without making major compromises financially

I have friends who were limited to one for the same reasons

Even in the third world, birth rates have fallen by around half since then - from an average of 6 children per woman (over her lifetime) in the '60s, to around 3 today.

And that's excluding China - which in 2021 saw its fertility rate (avg. number of babies per woman over her lifetime) fall to 1.15.

Very close to their long sought-after 1-child policy.

We don't have money to have children and raise a family. In addition, you need to believe that you can still be making enough money to raise a family 10, 20 years down the road, and with the future of jobs uncertain with the continual war on good jobs by the business elite (including rising automation), and the future of this country and even the planet uncertain, how can you trust that you won't bring a child into this world just to suffer?

Society has left us to the wolves and wonder why we won't be like previous generations...

We are the parents of Zoomers. Our entire adult life has been wage suppressed and we have lived through 4 major Wall Street meltdowns, the first one in 1987.

But I'm sorry you have been along on part of that ride!

...in the economy. In the late '80s and early '90s, there were already books being written with titles like America: What Went Wrong? GenX was probably the last generation whose members had any chance at maintaining parity with their parents' standard of living, let alone surpassing it.

I discovered that there is an updated version of the book, America: What Went Wrong? The Crisis Deepens. Link below:

As the segment of the population that is past child rearing years grows bigger and bigger, it stands to reason that there is a smaller percentage of the population that can have children and this leads to low population growth
