Manchin: GOP treatment of Jackson 'disgraceful,' 'embarrassing'

Centrist Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said the way Republican senators treated Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson at last week's hearings was "disgraceful" and "embarrassing" after they repeatedly brought up her record of sentencing child pornography offenders.

Manchin said the behavior of GOP colleagues who repeatedly cut off Jackson while she tried to answer their questions about her sentencing decision crossed the line to become inappropriate.

"It was disgraceful, it really was, what I saw. And I met with her and I read all the transcripts. I listened to basically the hearings and it just was embarrassing," he told reporters Tuesday morning.

"It's not who we are. It's not what we were sent here to do, to attack other people and just try to tear them down. I won't be part of that. I think she's extremely well qualified and I think she'll be an exemplary judge," he added.

He was using the "global we" in reference to himself and others as members of the United States Senate.

I guess his funders either draw the line somewhere or don't care all that much about the judicial branch.

Thanks Joe Manchin, for committing to Vote for the finest qualified SC judge in our history.

Appreciate it.

They are damned no matter what. Like Colin Kaepernick. He did the honorable thing to silently protest police over reaction, homicide and brutality towards black people. It's was a bargaining position turned into a political weapon. That is who Republicans are today. No thought of humanity in that party.

She was magnificent.

Of course, the opposite is true for her GOP questioners. Pathetic, disgraceful, and disgusting are just a few of the words that come to mind.

This will come back to bite every one of these GOP 'so called' senators, who made a mockery of the GOP and showed just how low they have all sunk. One doesn't have to be downright cruel, downright mean, to treat their fellow human beings in such a manner. If anything, they are called to serve a higher standard, in which they failed miserably.

But West Virginia requires special coddling by their Washington, D. C. interpreters. It is required that they walk away with the concept that, somehow, a triumph of good old West Virginian good manners over bad conduct is the essential matter. It'll help them swallow his support of the "Demon-crat" nominee so as to allow them to deny his own party affiliation while they pull the "Demon-crat" lever at the November polls.

I'd say Manchin understands his base pretty well. As Rod Stewart would say, he "...wears it well. A little old fashioned, but that's alright."

Can I get a "halley-lou-yuh" from those who have the ear worm? "Cause that's what really hurts."
