Carrey, 60, was asked by Gayle King about the endlessly analyzed moment on the CBS Morning News while doing press for Sonic the Hedgehog 2
'I was sickened by the standing ovation,' he said. 'I felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse'
'I'd have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200million because that video's gonna' be there forever. That insult's gonna last a very long time'
Smith, 53, won his first Academy Award ever after a stunning on-stage meltdown
On Monday, he apologized for slapping Rock after the comedian joked about Smith's wife's shaved head at Sunday's Oscars
Whoopi Goldberg, also a member of the Academy board of governors, said she believes Smith will keep his Oscar but will face 'big consequences'

(28,930 posts)The few times I have witnessed it in person totally shook me and I could see the person becoming violent had lost control. As Carrey suggests, Will Smith has some real inner turmoil and I think he felt guilty for laughing at the joke. So his getting violent with Chris Rock was him projecting himself onto Chris Rock. I think Smith is a good person but he really needs to get some counseling.

(2,113 posts)Will Smith's hot-headed stupidity made the entire evening about himself. He did a disservice to his peers, his Industry, viewers and most of all, his family. His acceptance speech was pure bullshit and his IG apology was even worse. He needs help. I hope he gets it.

(85,996 posts)Jim Carrey became openly upset with Gov. Brown after he signed a new vaccination law that made vaccinations mandatory for all schoolchildren, barring religious and other personal-belief exemptions.
The Golden Globe-winning actor slammed Brown on Twitter, calling him a corporate fascist who was poisoning children by signing into law the vaccination requirements.
California Gov says yes to poisoning more children with mercury and aluminum in manditory vaccines, he said. This corporate fascist must be stopped.

(90,335 posts)To the point of gas lighting people into *NOT* seeing WS laugh at the GI Jane Joke he smacked Rock for.
I'm seeing in real time the maginations MAGA go through to defend Trump or Weinstein or Cosby or other people we respect.

(85,996 posts)...when he doesn't really have a dog in that fight.
Everyone with any authority to do anything about it can't push forward with any punitive response, because Chris Rock hasn't pressed that case. People are egging on Rock anyway like a mob cheering on a fight.
He might just want to end it with the slap. Insult served, response noted. That's for him to decide, and what could be better than deescalating the animosity between them? Revenge? Punishment? The result of that would be insignificant to any cause, save sensationalism, gawking, and tongue-clucking.
It wasn't a drive by. It was an insult and a slap. Something worked out everyday between heated up individuals, men and women, without multi-million dollar lawsuits. The venom coming from Carrey (who's not in that confrontation), isn't progressive, it's scandal-mongering, self-promoting drama.
Does Carrey even hear himself? This isn't a movie. It's a petty confrontation that's better left to rest, but so many have invested their time in trying to pump it up, I have to ask what scenario could be better than just letting it go?
