Since the development of MIRVs, each device is general 0.5 - 1 megaton.
But, with a dozen warheads on one missile, the damage is spread across an even greater radius.
Making them smaller but deploying them in multiple spots works well because it maximizes missile efficiency, and the smaller devices fit into relatively little reentry vehicles.
One missile might deliver only 120 times the explosive force, but 500 times the damage.
The weapons designers have been, unfortunately, very effective in this regard.
