communications with Garland (doesn't mean they spoke about anything directly, but he does have some sense of the man).

The truth likely lies somewhere in between. I can't imagine there have not been ongoing quiet investigations/discussions and those assigned to closely follow the 01/06 investigations (and others, including GA).To what extent that would qualify as active DOJ "ongoing investigations" is the question.

Arguably, regardless of what is or isn't going on, DOJ has not been OVERTLY and aggressively pursuing Trump et al. Perhaps the "biding their time" approach has merit. I see little but risk.

but considering all the endless hooha that would erupt if it were revealed DoJ is investigating Trump, I'd keep things under wraps, too. We saw what happened when Comey, then Barr decided they needed to inform the public of what was happening.

is a component of building a case and following leads. More time can lead to a rock solid case.

When you need to wiretap suspects who are also political leaders, you better keep a lid on it.
