This week, prosecutors won their first convictions in federal court in a Jan. 6 case against former Texas oil worker Guy Reffitt. That followed a guilty plea to seditious conspiracy by an Alabama man affiliated with the far-right Oath Keepers militia.

"We begin with the cases that are right in front of us with the overt actions and then we build from there," Garland said. "And that is a process that we will continue to build until we hold everyone accountable who committed criminal acts with respect to Jan. 6."

But there is actually counter-evidence, two significant pieces of evidence of ongoing investigation:

1) 131 DoJ attorneys will be hired for the investigation. There is a knock-on effect because that means lots of support staff, more disk drives and offices and custodial staff. This is serious, folks.

2) "all levels" statement. That is a serious statement from two very sober hardworking top people.

Extraordinary resources devoted to the Jan. 6 probe

Every FBI office, almost every U.S. attorney's office in the country is working on this matter. We've issued thousands of subpoenas, seized and examined thousands of electronic devices, examined terabytes of data, thousands of hours of videos. People are working every day, 24/7, and are fully aware of how important this is. This had to do with the interference with the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to another. And it doesn't get more important than that.

I say: Without proper governance (especially peaceful transfer of power after democratic elections), all other functions of government will be less effective for security, peace, and justice.

His actions show he's not taking it that seriously. DoJ prosecutors have been chastised by Judges for slaps on the wrist for insurrectionists.

Garland is not willing to prosecute a former *resident.

I get it, i get it. But as much as the DOJ should maintain a neutral political stance if it doesn't prioritize certain cases that politics will change, the politics will/may change the priority. Something as important as our democracy is on the same time table as fixing the price of chickens. I get it, both should be investigated equally in a perfect world. But there are time sensitive priorities that sometimes need to be made. Law should be expressed equitably but also should be prioritized on the social efficacy IMO.

They are NOT hiring 131 new attorneys to investigate chicken prices.

But didn't like 20 RepubliQans vote to confirm Merrick Garland?

A 50/50 Senate that ALWAYS votes along party lines, but he was confirmed in a 70-30 vote.
So 20 Republicans, including Mitch McConnell, crossed party lines to vote for Garland?

And we're still surprised when Merrick Garland’s DOJ repeatedly decides to take action (or not take action) that protects Trump?

I think we got used to a partisan AG who was investigating whoever the President told him to during the previous 4 years. Garland is impartial and he's not the one deciding what to investigate, his prosecutors are, and they're following the evidence.

People seem to think the AG gets to pick people for the DOJ to investigate and indict, he doesn't, cases have to be made.
